Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $120.00 from Boinx website

Summary:

This product can create a wonderful slideshow. My review is of the Pro version. It can use Garageband for editing the sound track and iDVD to burn to dvd. It takes full advantage of the resolution of the iMac monitor. Considering its current version is 2.1, the application locks up too easily to be recommended.

Strengths:

Its intuitive interface allows dropping and dragging slides and audio tracks into the show sequence. Slide thumbnails are large enough that you can actually use them in organizing. Numerous transition effects are available. You can create a true Ken Burns type show. The sound track can be dropped directly into application or you can send slides to Garageband and use its massive powers to create a soundtrack.

Weaknesses:

I am fairly new to Mac and in the last month have been totally in awe of the rock solid performance of its OS and iLife applications. I am disappointed that a third party program is so glitchy. It locked up numerous times, even to the extent that I had to cold boot a number of times to get out of the program. This is on a new iMac (9/2007) using a mature version of FotoMagico (Ver 2.1). I also experienced slideshows, ssp extension, vanishing into thin air. Searches with Spotlight only brought up two of six shows I had created. I had shows renamed by addition of ~ to their name and the unexplained appearance of a show titled with 22 zeros. Though it has a button to send the slideshow to iDVD to burn, it doesn't work. The message from FotoMagico is that iDVD has a problem. Its price is too high for what behaves like a Beta version. When its done, it will be a great software.

Customer Service:

Query to customer service was answered in good time but response was of little use.

Great program. Falls between iphoto and Final cut express.

Strengths:

Easy to learn and us. Great transitions. Multiple outputs, including HD, ipods. Solid. It integrates with Apple Aperture and itunes.
