Summary:

I bought this camera to replace a Konica Minolta Xg digicam. The original Dimage X was a great camera and took sharp, decent pictures, but the latest X series cameras have been far too soft. Enter the Canon SD20. I've only had the camera a few days, but I have already chosen and printed two VERY nice images. If you're looking for a sharp lens and 5 megapixels, you won't go wrong with this gem. The lack of a zoom lens is an issue, but honestly, the zoom lenses on small digicams are not up to the quality level seen in larger digicams. If your main subject is your kids, your dog, your family & fiends, etc, you're not going to be shooting them from a mile away. The flash is not very good on this camera. It seems to selectively overexpose close shots - haven't seen any pattern yet. It also doesn't have much range, about 6ft max. At three feet distance however, people pictures are nicely exposed. Redeye too will show up, a lot, but this is an easy fix. All in all I am absolutely delighted with this camera and the images it creates. Be careful how you use it and it won't let you down - in fact, I guarantee it will, several times, knock your socks off.

Strengths:

Tiny - about half the size of a Minolta Dimage X Amazingly sharp lens - no zoom! Excellent software bundle Metal tripod mount Lots of custom features. You can customize the startup image, for example.

Weaknesses:

No optical viewfinder Flash is average for this size camera A bit slow to startup, and shutter lag is noticable.
