This camera was good for a while, it took good photos and great for taking places in a hurry. Small enough to take with. A bit heavy compared to cameras that have this quality now though.
Strengths:
Small and well designed. I like that front closure on it, as I do not see any other camera that has that feature. Seems more cameras should have this. Other than that I like that it's black. But since I got an error message on it and it is just a paper weight now I see nothing great about it.
Weaknesses:
I got an error e18 and it stopped working!! I don't know what the error is and I don't know why it does not work any longer. I have only had this less than a couple years, never dropped it or let it lay anywhere without it being in the carry case. So, now the zoom lense will not go in, it is just stuck out. I have looked around online for a fix and nothing has worked. Canon will happily charge me a couple hundred to fix it though!

I have used several other Canon product, though now after this I have redirected my camera searching to Nikon. I will have to read around though to make sure they are a good company to work with.
Customer Service:
Canon's customer service will gladly charge me to look at it. Though for that ammount I can go buy another camera. It won't be Canon though.
My objective was to select a digital point and shoot that would be with me at all times. Hiking, camping, and hanging out with friends, this camera had to be pocketable yet produce quality images.
Since I do a lot of travel photography, the 28mm wide angle was a veritable "must" for this work. I have found that the S70 has lived up to my expectations, giving me great pics under the conditions for which it was intended.
When I made my purchase, I selected the S70 over the S80 for two major reasons - the ability to accept CF cards and the option of exploiting file capture in RAW format. The CF card issue is a must, as my primary camera is a Nikon D70, and I now need carry only one type of memory card to store my images.
Strengths:
Excellent resolution and color rendition with no noticeable distortion in scenic and people photos.
Good size and portability for acivities like bike riding, hiking, etc.
Great price on the last (few) remaining models.
Fairly intuitive menu for most used functions like WB, resolution, macro, etc.
Decent manual controls for a P&S camera
Weaknesses:
Noise is an issue at the 400 ISO level.
LCD is smaller then current S80 version
Smallish viewfinder (but better than many cameras which have none at all)

Never needed, but my local dealer is the best and has been outstanding in previous service matters.
This is my first digital camera and I have been pleasantly surprised at the high quality results which it delivers.
A4 prints are superb with extremely fine rendition of details, excellent colour balance and good management of subjects with a high brightness range. A3 prints are very good and even A2 prints are quite good when viewed from an appropriate distance.
The sensor is, I believe, made by Sony and is used on several other digicams. It measures only 7.18x5.32 mm. I can't imagine how they get so much information on such a tiny sensor.
The lens is excellent with good wide angle capacity. There is some softening in the corners at the wide end and slight loss of contrast at the long end. But generally lens performance is top quality.
This little gem delivers results at least equal to a top quality 35mm film SLR camera.
Strengths:
Compact, good build quality, ease of use, an abundance of user controls over image capture variables, too numerous to mention here, ability to capture RAW images, excellent image quality.
Weaknesses:
Nothing serious. Images are noisy at speed 400, there is some purple fringing in high contrast subjects, the LCD screen is almost invisible in bright sunlight ( but then you can use the optical viewfinder, some digicams don't have one ) Shutter lag is an issue when photographing rapidly changing subjects like children. At these times judicious anticipation of action is required.
This is the third Digital camera I got since 1999, and yes, it is the best one. The 7.1 MP creats an image at 3072x 2304 with superior color and clarity. Unlike most of the Sony cybershot cameras, the powershot s70 displays incrediable amount of sharp and vivid images. With 13 shooting modes, you no longer have to manual adjust the settings to shoot different things, etc, fast moving images or nightshots. the shutter speed is also very fast, it can capture moving objects as if it is not moving. But the bad thing about the camera is its movie mode. At 640x480, you can only shoot 30 seconds of movie with 10 frames per sec. And at 320x280 you can shoot up to 3 minutes of clip. But other than this, I highly recommands this camera
Strengths:
sharp and vivid pictures, 13 shooting modes, fast shutter speed
I got this to replace a G5 which I found was slightly too big for my pocket. It not only fits easily but produces images of better quality than the G5 and smoother with less noise than the Pro 1. I find it very easy and pleasing to use. I have no regrets buying this to compliment my Pro 1 and 1D Mk II.... I just wanted a very portable compact and it fits the bill perfectly. I have the SLR for more 'planned' photo outings. It produces images near as dammit identical to a G6 but with a wider angle lens at a significantly lower price.
Strengths:
Image quality, size, ease of use. 28mm wide angle.
