from B&H Summary: An interesting addition to my flash collection. It works as intended with my 100 2.8 macro, evenly lighting the subject even at f-stops up to 32. It''s lack of E-TTL doesn''t present a problem. The exposures are accurate. Much less expensive that the newer ringlight, but for me it is perfectly satisfactory. One interesting thing you can do with it is shoot portraits, particularly if the subject is far from a wall or other background. If a subject is too close to a wall, you get a halo shadow around them that is unattractive. The light itself is flat and even which can be interesting for portraits, but you are likely to get severe redeye if you shoot a portrait indoors. This is not the main use of the ringlight, of course, so it is unfair to call this a defect or weakness. You can turn one of the flash heads off if you want to have a little more texture in the photos.
There really doesn''t seem any reason to buy the more expensive E-TTL version of this ringlight to me. Strengths: Good strength and exposure for macro, fun to use occasionally for portraits, though not really it''s main uses. Weaknesses: red eye with people shots indoors. Similar Products Used: Many flashes, no ringlights. Customer Service: Not used
