Price Paid:  $439.00 from Internet/ eBay

Summary:

Very nice digital camera, lots of extras included like nicad batteries, charger, lens ring adapter, carry strap, adapter cord for TV, computer, printer, etc. Excellant pictures. Like the hot shoe attatchment and 49mm lens adapter options, decent battery life good support company. Have loaned camera out twice, they went out and bought their right after!!

Strengths:

Hot shoe flash attatchment(very few, if any, in this camera area/ price) , picture detail, manual adjustments, direct to (Epson) printer printing capability, great camera feel, good (upgradable) software, very good manuals, good battery life.

Weaknesses:

zoom switch lags a bit, built flash is fair for the farther shots, only an 8 mg CF card included. No bag

Similar Products Used:

Epson 750z, Kodack dc10

Customer Service:

Very good on a printer situation I had a couple months ago, not needed for this product so far.

The Epson 850z is truly a great camera. I have used it for about a year for web site photos. It takes very sharp pictures on automatic or manual settings. The color display is very nice and a little larger than some cameras that I reviewed.

Strengths:

Five star color. Very sharp and clear photos. Very easy to use. All cables, memory and software come with camera.

Weaknesses:

None.

Review 3 of 58

Summary:

The PhotoPC-850z is the third digital camera I have owned. I am very pleased with the camera; it is capable of producing excellent photographs. I have read reviews that seem to indicate that there is some lack of capability of this camera, particularly with sharpness and color. I have come to the conclusion that these reviewers opinions were biased against the camera for what ever reason, because I have photos that compare very favorably with the other top performers. The PhotoPC-850z has excellent resolution, color and sharpness. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone desiring a high-end digital camera. The only thing I have found to be somewhat annoying, is the occasional tendency to lose the resolution setting, defaulting back to a lower resolution than the one I had previously set. But that isn’t really much of a problem. Also, there is a bit of a delay when snapping a photo; it could be a bit faster in that respect. Again, it isn’t that big of a problem. Overall I rate the camera to be excellent. If anyone wants to see what this camera is capable of, you can send a request to cciane@home.com and I can provide some examples of very beautiful photographs.

Strengths:

Beautiful high quality photos

Weaknesses:

Occasionally has to be reset to the highest resolution due to defaulting back to a lower resolution - but not that big of a deal.

Review 5 of 58

Summary:

I bought 850Z a little over a year ago for $630 (before it had gotten so many good reviews) and I see that is still a pretty good price; it's held its resale value nicely! It performs well in every situations I have used it in; direct sunlight, moonlight, artificial lighting, etc. I usually sharpen the images just slightly and add a little color saturation to optimize them, but they are still very good right out of the camera. I like all the manual settings as well as its point and shoot capabilities. It's a good camera for novices and experts alike! The supplied 8MB CF card that came with it isn't big enough for most users. I bought an IBM 340MB Microdrive and have never run out of digital film since. I also bought an AC adapter for inside use. Both of these accessories have been really worthwhile. You can see some of the images I've made with it at: http://members2.clubphoto.com/dave220812/50Z/ and my full review at: http://www.epinions.com/elec-review-2526-D75EAE6-3883962D-bd1. If you're looking for a digicam in the $600 price range, you won't be disappointed with this camera. If you want to spend a little more, look at the Canon PowerShot G1.

Strengths:

Features, features, features!

Weaknesses:

No uncompressed capture mode.

Customer Service:

Haven't needed it.
