Review 1 of 9

Price Paid:  $260.00 from Currys

Summary:

Well I got it as the Christmas gift. Actually I was looking for a digital camera for start. I have a Canon AE-1 for many years but because I am taking so many photos and try to work seriously, so this is much more handy. I can carry it wherever I go and if I find something interesting I just take it. I believe if you want to start digital photography it is a good camera and the price is reasonable (£260), but if you want to use it as a professional one, I don’t think it would be enough. The good thing about it, is its zoom power and well you have to buy a big memory card cause the 16 MB is not enough if you want to have good quality photos. The additional price for the 128MB was £50 for me. Also it needs four AA battery cause it eats them so fast. So a rechargeable battery is necessary. It is a good camera more for the outdoor shooting, for indoor I have always problem that my shots became blurred. Also I like to select my speed manually but I tried different times and I failed. I think it’s a good start but if I get enough money I defiantly buy a better digital camera. Meanwhile I try to use it the best way I can.

Strengths:

6X Optical Zoom, Good price.

Weaknesses:

No manual speeding and focusing, weak in indoor shooting.

Customer Service:

No need up to now :)

Review 2 of 9

Price Paid:  $300.00 from Target

Summary:

I think this is a great camera for the money. It's my second digital camera, the first being a Kodak DC3400 (2.0 MP). I definitely think I've started taking better photos with this camera in the 2 months or so I've had it. It's very easy to use, and there are a few settings such as aperture that you can change. I primarily use it for automotive photography and definitely enjoy using this camera.

Strengths:

6x zoom, 3.2MP, easy to use, video setting, includes everything you need to use it.

Weaknesses:

It doesn't focus well on close-up things, not much else in my humble opinion.

Similar Products Used:

Kodak DC3400

Customer Service:

I thankfully haven't needed to use any sort of customer service yet...*knock on wood*

Review 3 of 9

Price Paid:  $0.00 from sams

Summary:

I received the S3000 for xmas from my in laws. Maybe after 30+ they feel a little guilty. Anyway this is a great camera for the average user, it is relatively inexpensive for all of the quality that it offers. It looks and feels like a small 35mm slr at about 1/3 to 1/2 the size and weight depending on what you are used to. You could put the S3000 in the hands of someone who has never seen a camera before and they would intuitively hold it correctly. Almost all functions can be handled with two fingers, zoom, shutter, macro etc. Your left hand will be needed to open the flash or switch to the lcd screen, but primarily to steady the unit. Beginners to intermediates will love this camera. Anal retentives and psuedo pros will hate it. Quality pictures versus the price is EXCEPTIONAL! The real claim to fame here is the 6x OPTICAL zoom which you won't find on most cameras at twice/thrice the price. This is mostly a point and shoot camera with some manual settings and it does this admirally. Mine came with a case and a 16 and 32 mb card but, I would go for a 128 or 256 card if you plan a trip or are going to be away from your computer for awhile. It uses AA (available everywhere) batteries, and eats them like good bbq, so rechargeabales are the way to go. Low light use is non existant without flash; you do get the "hand" which means your shot will probably blur unless you are very steady or use a tripod. I have taken more shots with this camera in one month than I have in the last 10 years with regular cameras. If you don't like the shot click and delete. The software that is included is ok for newbies, but beyond that, well it is minimal. I am still trying to figure out how to shoot a moving target effectively. Other than that and low light this camera is a great choice. I have read a lot of, I wants, like bigger memory card, auto flash, hot shoe, more mega pixels, etc etc etc adnauseam but if they did this then it would be too expensive etc etc etc adnauseam. great camera for the price even Mikey likes it.

Strengths:

great quality, super zoom, easy to use. Best in the price range.

Weaknesses:

low light, moving targets, although that may be my skills. shutter lag, but is normal with digital cameras.

Customer Service:

not needed; so far flawless

Review 4 of 9

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

Just got this camera for Christmas and I love it! I already had an Olympus D-380 2MP which was nice but no optical zoom. I also like the fact that you can change picture resolution from less than 1 MP to 3MP. The S3000 is a great little camera.

Strengths:

Nice lens, small size, great pictures..able to use regular AA batteries in a pinch. Rechargables recommended!

Weaknesses:

Besides the fact I cant put it in my pocket, NONE.

Similar Products Used:

Olympus D-380

Customer Service:

I hope to never have to call them.

Review 5 of 9

Price Paid:  $300.00 from Circuit City

Summary:

I received the S3000 as a Christmas gift from my wife. Usually I am the type of person that must have the latest and greatest anything (like 6.2 megapixel camera). Therefore, the first thing my wife said was, "you probably won't like it and want to take it back and get a better on". Well, let me tell you. I absolutely love this camera. 3.2 megapixel is plenty for me. In about 6 days of operation I have taken over 500 pictures. I even bought a nice printer (HP Photosmart - pretty nice itself). Anyway, the photos look great and they print out great. Again, I love it and for the money would not trade it for anything else.

Strengths:

Great quality pictures. Nice zoom. I like the eye piece to look through also, so when outside you can see what you are looking at. Easy operation (lots of settings). In general great little camera.

Weaknesses:

No sound for video (not that big of a deal, since I have a video camera). It seems like to get a good picture I have to always have the flash on or else it is blurry and dark (no matter where I take the picture). But again, not that big of a deal. No manual focus - would be nice to have because in low light it has trouble focusing. Lastly, the red eye reduction seems to sometimes work and sometimes not. I really need to try and figure it out - mabye I am doing something wrong. Not sure.

Similar Products Used:

Just cheap digital cameras - not that good. JVC digital camcorder. Minolta 35mm camera - still like it.

Customer Service:

Have not needed them and hopefully never will.
