Review 1 of 13

Price Paid:  $4.00 from Adorama

Summary:
I truly do not understand those negative reviews. I would suggest that they try different labs and maybe use a better lens and filter. I tried this NPC recently on a trip to carribeans. The color are just popping out the picture. I did use a polarizer becuase of the strong sun light. Color saturation, contrast, and sharpness are the best on all the negative films that I have tried. Yes, NPS is a little bit soft and silky, a good film also. I personally likes the contrasty film that is easy to grab attention. I strongly agree with one reviewer that processing film is the half of the job. Look for a good one who uses fresh solutions. You just can not save money on the processing, no matter what film you use. One of my own experience, I send my Fuji slides to a processing lab, expect to get a vivid color. I did not. And I was puzzled. Guess what, they process those slides with Kodak which requires less time in the first developer. I then processed all the slides myself, all the photos come out like post cards.

Strengths:
Contrast, vivid color

Weaknesses:
May not be good enough for a silky wedding picture where fog effects are desired.

Similar Products Used:
Reala, NPS, and Fuji Velvia slide (my first choice of slide film)

Review 2 of 13

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
Wonderful film for flash photography. VEry sharp, and contrast is a wonderful asset for bounce flash photography. Without flash, it is merely good. Skin tones run toward the pink, no matter what lab I''''ve used. Contrast can be a bit too severe for some conditions. In any case, it captures wonderful amounts of detail, and the colors have alot of punch and livliness to them, though maybe not entirely realistic to my eye... But, since Royal Gold 100 has been discontinued, this will probably end up becoming my slow film fine grain film of choice.

Strengths:
great detail powerful colors dramatic contrast perfect for flash photography

Weaknesses:
dramatic contrast skin tones a bit pink without flash colors can appear overdone under some circumstances

Review 3 of 13

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
Advertised as a portrait film I thought it would give truer flesh tones. Sure it''s contrasty, but skin tones seem overblown in colour no matter how it it printed. Of course it isn''t as bad a Reala which is nasty on skin, but I thought skin might have been a bit more like a 160NPS. Grain is also unimpressive. It doesn have good exposure latitude for contrasty film though. NPS160 is so smooth and sliky in comparison. If you are purely doing portraits go NPS (and over expose 2/3 stop if you really need more contrast). If you want colourful landscape go Reala which has finer grain and punchy colours. Or make real images by using Fuji professional slide film.

Strengths:
Contrast, latitude

Weaknesses:
Disappointing Skin tones, Grain.

Similar Products Used:
Fuji NPS160, NPH400, NPZ, Reala.

Review 4 of 13

Summary:
I can´t understand how anyone can criticize this film for being unatural !?!
It is as realistic or even better than Reala and
I think that people need to try other labs or atleast put some presure and make sure to let the lab reprint your pictures if you are displeased.

One must know that it isn´t the film that does bad
prints it self, it is the guy who prints them !
If correctly copied, prints turns out superbly, believe me.
This film is really good it´s no doubt about it.

If you don´t like printfilm and don´t understand how it works, or/and don´t have a lab that satisfie you, USE SLIDE FILM INSTEAD !

Sorry for these hard words, but common guys !

regards Patrik

Strengths:
It´s fine grain and realistic colour.

Weaknesses:
Somewhat expensive.
(But who cares, really).

Kodak 160VC, NPS160.

Review 5 of 13

Price Paid:  $5.00

Summary:
Although I shoot a lot of sports photography, I occasionally end up doing a wedding or two and quite a bit of portraits. Prior to using this 160NPC I was using Kodak Portra 160VC and 400VC almost exclusively for these two other non-sport applications. I shot my first wedding with this stuff and I was highly impressed with the results. While I believe that the Portra 160VC has just as punchy colors, I have to give the sharpness and better contrast award to the Fuji NPC. I was happy with the Portra stuff, but the contrast was lacking in some situations and it had a "washed out" or "flat" look at times. For certain applications that may be good, but I tend to prefer the contrasty pictures with more "bite".

I can't think of any other film that has outperformed this NPC stuff all around, so I must say I'm now a convert and will probably use this stuff exclusively until I find something better.

I still use the 400VC for a faster speed because i don't think Fuji has a "vivid" color 400 speed out yet. From what I've found through research, the NPH is not quite as punchy with the color, so I opted for the Portra 400. Experimenting with the 400 NPH will probably be my next endeavor.

**On a side note, I had these 160NPC wedding photos processed first at a different lab than I usually use and they came out looking very drab and lacking detail. I was so distraught about this I had the entire batch re-shot at my usual place and the results were stunning. So for any amateurs out there remember this cardinal rule: Where you bring your film for processing is every bit as important as your choice of film. Great film shot on great cameras will still not look good if processed at a cheap or mediocre lab. Spend the extra $$ and get it done on state of the art processing equipment at a reputable lab.

Strengths:
Great skin tones
Very, very sharp
Extremely fine grain (especially for 160)
Excellent contrast
Punchy colors without being overbearing

Weaknesses:
Pricey if purchased retail--buy mail-order from big supplier and price is MUCH cheaper and easily affordable.

Similar Products Used:
All Kodak print films
Most Fuji print films
Most Kodak reversal films
Most Fuji reversal films

Customer Service:
Haven't needed any yet.
