Review 1 of 22

Price Paid:  $4.00 from B&H

Summary:

Beautiful low speed film.

Strengths:

Sharshest I have ever used. Has little more grain than Kodak T-Max 100, but what is a little ( ONLY little )grain, when the film is so sharp !!!

Weaknesses:

Little sensitive to dev. times. Make sure you give extra 5 mins. when fixing this film.

Similar Products Used:

Fuji Accros 100.

Customer Service:

For film ???

Review 2 of 22

Price Paid:  $0.00 from Jessops

Summary:

Went out on an awful day and found I'd only brought Delta 100, a film with which I was not familiar, and which seemed far too slow for the conditions. Proceeded to abuse it terribly - dark woodland, overcast glary tupperware sky - total guesswork. Expected very little. Put it through Paterson Aculux onto Ilford Multigrade. Result? Pure bliss. You could see every leaf on every tree, and print the whole darn roll with the same settings if you wanted. Captured the mood perfectly.

Strengths:

I've heard other opinions, but I found this film completely bombproof. Does nice portraits too. Essentially no grain on a 645 negative enlarged to 10x8 - you can just see it with the scope. Lovely.

Weaknesses:

I found Delta 400 has given me more trouble - never mind.

Similar Products Used:

FP4, HP5

Customer Service:

Hmm, Jessops. They're everywhere in the UK, and their prices are OK, and they sell everything. Delivery service is rubbish though. They broke my consignement into about 378 individual lots and I was forever going back to the depot to collect from a firm with no idea of sociable hours (or even how to knock on a door, on occasion).

Review 3 of 22

Price Paid:  $0.00 from 7DayShop

Summary:

When developed properly, this film exhibits good (if a little strong) contrast and good sharpness. Extremely sensitive to development and exposure errors, and is NOT recommended for high contrast situations because highlights have a tendency to blow. Personally I am not a big fan of its limited tonal range. Best used in flat-ish lighting situations. Have processed in Paterson FX-39 at 1+9 and 1+19 dilutions: the former is much too harsh, the latter is more subtle but highlights and shadow details are lost in high contrast scenes. Requires very careful handling for optimum results.

Strengths:

Good deep blacks, nice contrast when exposed and developed properly, reasonably fine grain

Weaknesses:

Poor tonal range Poor exposure latitude Sensitive to development errors

Fuji Neopan Acros 100 Agfa APX 100

Review 4 of 22

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

I like ilford films overall and this is another good ilford film. Fine grain, good contrast, ok tonality and sharp. Where it fails is it's exposure and development sensitive, be careful developing it, I wonder it it's like Acros and has an EI of 80 or so. This film likes a touch of over exposure but unlike most B&W films you can really miss if your not careful. Ilford recomends microphen or ilfodol s but I think that if your hand tanking you should use a slower developer, but not perceptol. ID-11 or D-76, to remove developing inaccuracies, I don't recommend over developing this film. Almost the perfect 100 iso B&W film but it's a bit to sensitive and what happened to it's mid tones? it's cheap and easy to find.

Strengths:

nice grain, good grain structure. Inexpensive.

Weaknesses:

picky in exposure and developing, weak mid tones

Similar Products Used:

fuji acros, tmax, agfa pan 100

Review 5 of 22

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

A wonderful fine-grain medium speed film. A pleasure to work with, yielding consistently good results. Sharpness, tones, and contrast are always spot-on. I have developed this film in ID-11 (stock) and Ilfosol (1+9) and achieved fine results with both. A great all-round choice when fine grain and sharpness are more important than speed.

Strengths:

Fine grain, superb contrast and tonal rendition.

Similar Products Used:

Every Ilford film, Kodak TMax 100 & 400, Fuji Neopan SS, Kodak Tri-X, etc

Customer Service:

Ilford site has all the info you need. They've recently added a beginner's guide to development which would be very helpful to anyone starting out.
