    Strength:

Easy to set up, take down
    Light weight
They trigger off my flash so no expensive triggers required (good for the broke beginner :))

    Weakness:

Not enough control of lighting amount

I bought two of these at a garage sale while saving up to get studio lighting and they have worked great! I plan on upgrading at some point but I have no complaints other then they don't have a control knob to control the amount of light. If you need beginner strobes for a good price I would check these out.

    Strength:

    Very lightweight

    Weakness:

    Doesn't work for long!

I literally plugged this thing in and did 10 test shots. It won't fire now! The flash tube is fine as well as the fuse. Sad. This was being used as a hair light.

I guess you get what you pay for!

    Strength:

First, of course is the price which is dirt cheap! Second is that this unit is very light in weight. Third is that the unit is very compact. The unit has a modeling light which is, to me, a very neccessary feature and one which some bargain basement units do not incorporate.
The lights appear very reliable and I have had not problems with them. They are not particularly powerful units but are just fine for hair and BG lights.
I would recommend them based on their price alone excelt that I was able to purchase a used 3-monolight Multiblitz set with barndoors, snoot, grid, filter holder, set of glass filters, sync cord and fitted plastic case on Ebay for $300. This would put the price of these more capable lights right in line with a set of Versalight J-110's and modifiers.
However, one cannot always expect to find a bargain like the Multiblitz set every time you look on Ebay.

    Weakness:

The modeling light is not particularly accurate and doesn't adjust when the power of the strobe is adjusted. The units have an integral reflector which is O.K. for using with an umbrella but, not great if you want to use a soft box. As I said, they are low powered but, fine for BG and hair lights.
Could I use them for main and fill lights? I guess so but, they would have limited value in those cpacities.

I am a retired Navy Master Chief Photographer's Mate and have also done professional photography since retiring from the Navy. I have finally totally retired and sold my business with all the associated equipment. But then, found that I wanted to continue in photography as a hobby. I have two White Lightning units which I use for main and fill lights but, wanted some relatively inexpensive lights for hair and BG light. The Versalight J-110 filled the gap and worked fine for both uses. I have a snoot and a honeycomb grid to modify the lights. I have had absolutely no mechanical or electrical problems with these lights. They have always worked just fine. I recently purchased a Multiblitz light set and have retired the Versalight J-110's to shooting ebay products with a light tent. I can leave these lights set up on folded stands and they take up very little closet room. If I left the White Lightnings or Multiblitz lights in the closet - I am sure my wife would complain about the room they woold take up.

    Customer Service

The units have worked fine. I have had no occasion to need customer service.

    Strength:

    Price/value Size Convenience (slave/sync/trigger button)

    Weakness:

Finish feels cheap esp upon close inspection Feels that sync voltage may get bigger than the rated 6V.

Just bougth it for potrait at my home. It is the first strobe that I own so I don't know what to expect (I ussually use dedicated flash). Tried to cable-sync it with my digicam A2 and works OK but it cause the EVF to develop a white streak on one occasion. Maybe because the sync voltage quite big. Will not use it with sync cable again to avoid damage to my camera (will use it as slave to my internal flash). I will use it as kicker lighting after get a grip on studio lighting and buy a bigger strobe. Does not experience electric shock as reported with Versalight line.
