Review 1 of 10

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

I would recommend this camera to anyone. The color and detail of the photos is better than any I have seen in any other 2mp camera. It's actually the third 2mp camera a bought (the other two I brought back) and I kept this one. Software is great and I don't think you really need the Dock. Works fine without it. I love the Video out feature. We just went to the amusement park for the day and then visited the grandparents, just plugged the video out directly into the TV and they saw all the pics I took immediately. GREAT feature! Battery life is quite short but I bought 1850 rechargeable NiHM batteries and I can get around 50 shots without any problem at all. I don't find that that bad at all really. Although it doesn't have a movie mode, I really wasn't keen on the movies the other cameras I had had made anyway. They were way to choppy. Only around 10 frames per second. If you want movies buy a camcorder :-)

Strengths:

Great quality pics (detail and especially color), 3x zoom, Video out mode

Weaknesses:

Battery life quite short, no movie mode

Review 3 of 10

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

I was skeptical about digital photography until I bought this camera. It's a great camera - fantastic bang for the buck! The pics are razor sharp. Battery life is great if you don't leave the LCD screen on all the time - I just turn it on to review my pic after I've taken it to make sure I got the shot I wanted. This is the great thing about digital photography - you can leave things "natural" with mistakes and all if you want, or you can review and correct for closed eyes, obstructed heads, and exposure. Took some difficult photos on purpose of nice Victorian buildings with the sun directly behind. Viewed the pic and saw that the building was too dark because of the powerful backlighting. Made an exposure correction and retook the picture and presto - a perfect photo! This provides some of the functionality you would get with exposure correction or spot metering in an SLR camera or in a good point-and-shoot. The camera is very sensitive to low-light situations and will warn you often of "possible underexposure" with a flashing orange light. However the camera is very good at compensating and I haven't had to scrap any pictures yet. Even large self-timer group photos taken with a tripod from 14 feet away in low indoor lighting only required a small brightness correction with the easy-to-use software that's included. The colors obtained are fantastic too. Kodak applies the same color balancing technology to its digital cameras that it applies to its film and processing techniques. Add to that the 3x optical zoom and an all-glass lens and you have one of the best 2 megapixel cameras in my opinion. The optional easyshare docking station comes with a set of rechargeable kodak batteries and acts as a battery charger FOR KODAK RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES ONLY. It makes transferring pics to the computer slightly easier - you don't have to connect the camera to the computer through its usb port but just sit it on the dock, which is always connected to the computer. Luckily the dock is not essential and you can just as easily get a Duracell NiMh charger and 4 Duracell NiMh rechargeable batteries (2 in the camera and 2 backup in case you run out of juice) for much less than the cost of the docking station. Consider the dock if you're buying this as a gift for someone who isn't very good with technology. Hope your results are as good as mine!

Strengths:

-easy to use camera -great color balance -all-glass lens with 3x optical zoom -easy to use software included

Weaknesses:

-none! (in my opinion)

Similar Products Used:

-none (have used only optical Canon cameras before this)

Customer Service:

-haven't needed it!

Review 4 of 10

Price Paid:  $389.00 from Dick Smith Electroni

Summary:

The Kodak CX4230 is an Excellent point and shoot digital camera for everyone. I purchased this camera and the second I opened the box I was ready to go and off I went and took lots of pictures with the extra 64mb card I purchased aswell for AU $108.00. I was very impressed with the picture quality being only just above beginner camera. The pictures were crisp and werent over exposed and were hardly grainy! I used a sony 10x optical zoom camera and I must say the pictures I took with them were horrible! I could hardly tell what I had taken a picture of! After about twenty minutes of shooting I pulugged the camera in to the computer and was sending pictures to my friends with in minutes and then I was ready to take more photos!!! I must admit I wasn't to impressed with the battery life lasting only 30minutes on 1 set of Lithium rechargable batteries but I was encouraged to by 4 rechargable batteries and a 1 hour recharger as apposed to the dock 2 which can only charge 1 set of batteries and you can't use the camera when they are recharging so if your going to buy this camera I strongly recomend not buying the camera dock! If you are going to go to maybe a family dinner or a bbq take the batteries out if you arent using the camera that way they will last longer ( the camera sucks up batteries even when the camera is turned off). All and All if you are interested in digital photography and like taking lots of pictures I definetly suggest this camera to you, but if you are looking for something where you have alot of control over what pictures you take like action and things like that go for a Kodak DX model no CX. (my price is so expensive because it is in Australian dollars)

Strengths:

- Great picture quality - Non - grainy pictures - decent zoom for price - stylish and comfortable - easy to use - good for anyone to use (even my 78 yo grandmother can use it!!!) - small and light (but not light as if it will just fly out of your hands)

Weaknesses:

Battery life was a bit poor but if you carry an extra set and try to avoid using the LCD screen and take the batteries out if you arent going to use it thenyou should be fine.

Review 5 of 10

Price Paid:  $250.00 from Ebay

Summary:

This camera takes `fantastic` pictures of a subject 3 feet away, 4 feet=close to a 35 mm, 5 feet and beyond the 35 mm has it beat. Never the less, I love having a digital camera. Kodak`s docking station and software make downloading and viewing extreemly simple. Their Website indicated that `If all you need are 8x10`s and no movies the CX 2340 is what you need. `I bought it!` They didn`t tell me, `if you want `good`pictures beyond 4 feet `go elseware.

Strengths:

Easy Downloading and viewing.

Weaknesses:

Never get the shot I want! I don`t know, maybe all digital cameras are this slow?

Similar Products Used:

None

Customer Service:

Kodak told me my camera was taking normal pictures. ?????????????
