Review 1 of 39

Price Paid:  $100.00 from eBay

Summary:

This will probably be the last time anyone reviews a DC120, so this is from today's perspective. These can be had for excellent prices on eBay today. I've used four different DC120s since they came out in 1997, and I've always found it an easy and versatile camera to use. Though I now use a DX6490 for most of my digital shooting, the DC120 is still good for web pictures, auction pictures, and other non-critical use. For the current used price, it's a deal. Compared to other one-megapixel cameras around (used and new) the DC120 is still a good choice. It has more zoom than you will find for the money, and the pictures still hold their own. Its almost Fisher-Price durability also make it a good choice for kids or for rugged use. Also consider it's easily replaceable. It's easy to take pictures in full-auto, and moderately difficult to do anything else. The controls on the camera aren't very intuitive. The DC120 is still a sensible choice in 1 MP cameras.

Strengths:

Tough, cheap, decent image quality, good zoom lens.

Weaknesses:

Bulky, old, software doesn't like 2000 or XP for camera docking (will still get images directly off the card, though), battery hog, cumbersome user interface. Also, don't expect any more support from Kodak than you can find on their webpage.

Similar Products Used:

Kodak DX6490, Several cheap digitals from Concord, recent Kodaks, several Nikon Coolpix models.

Review 2 of 39

Summary:

This is the sturdiest camera I have ever owned. It takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I have taken several thousand pictures with this camera and my only complaint aside from the kdc format is that kodak has not made a camera in the 3mp range to equal the 120. I will continue to use my 120 until kodak makes a 3mp with a lens that equals the 120's 38-114mm . As nice as the 4800 is it is only 28-84mm. Everyplace I go I see someone with one and most people say the same thing. The large size is also nice since most of the new camera are so small that you really cant do business work with them . (real estate, insurance , web design etc)

Strengths:

This camera is strong and sturdy. It takes a lot of abuse. Perfect for active people and heavy duty work. Someone droped my camera in the airport today and it didn't miss a beat. Kadack has not made a camera with a 38-114 mm lens since.

Weaknesses:

the camera requires an extra step to use. The standard format is kdc not jpeg

Similar Products Used:

Nikon 900, 950 kodak 3400

Customer Service:

Kodaks customer service is great. i had a problem with the first camera after about 8 months. Kodak just sent me another camera. No fuss

Review 3 of 39

Summary:

I have had this camera for a couple of years now and have taken hundreds of pictures with it. It takes beautiful pictures in highest resolution mode.. nice and crisp, very clear, beautiful color. VERY easy to use. If you're looking for a great digital camera for cheap, check EBAY, as there are lots of these available - in the 200.00 range. You definitely won't be disappointed. Drawbacks include it's size (relatively big), no audio indicator telling you that you just took a photo, eats up batteries like CRAZY if you use the LCD screen. Use rechargable lithiums and don't use the LCD screen to view pictures after you take them and you'll be set.

Strengths:

beautiful pictures, easy to use

Weaknesses:

no beep when it takes a photo, so you have to rely on the flashing light and the flashing number.

Review 4 of 39

Summary:

I've been active in photography for over 40 years. 35, 6x6, 4x5, color darkroom - you name it, I love it. I was looking for a digital camera as a good starting point in merging my photography skills with my computer savvy. After a little research, and considerable input from other pros and advanced amateurs, I selected the Kodak. I wanted a camera that was inexpensive, yielded quality pics, was easy to use, and learn with. This camera fills the bill. I bought my Kodak from Egghead (auction) for about $300 two years ago. From the first day I got it I found that it was VERY easy to take photos with, relatively simple to download pics to the computer, etc. Based on my friends' input, I was expecting solid 1 megapixel image quality (good 35mm quality 5x7's) - and I got it. I am totally pleased with this camera! I give it 4 stars for image quality, simply because no 1 megapixel digital can match a quality 35 for 8x10 photo sharpness.

Strengths:

digital: instant gratification that my Nikon can't deliver. a sharp 3x OPTICAL zoom lens provision for exteral flash standard (cheap) memory cards nice ergonomics: 1 handed picture taking (like a camcorder) Kodak customer support INCREDIBLE PRICE

Weaknesses:

Eats batteries - like ALL digitals Not pocketable supplied serial downloads slower than USB

Similar Products Used:

Olympus 2020 Casio

Customer Service:

Excellent. I have had no problems with the camera, but Kodak keeps me sends regular updates on the camera, including a safety recall on the AC adoper (which was replaced by them for free on some of the older models)
