Summary:

When I first got this camera my husband and I got it for ourselves for christmas two years ago, and although I have been doing photography for years and years I hadnt done digital cameras before. We looked through the booklet and started taking pictures and loading them on our computer. I liked the quality of the pictures, how easy it was to use the camera and how the easy it is to get the pictures off the camera and cropped to your liking. With a 2 and 4 year old we use this camera daily and have done so for 2 years and I cant see that it will be any different for the next 15! Great Camera.

Strengths:

Easy to use, small enough to fit into a diaper bag. Fairly fast to take a picture.

Weaknesses:

No zoom! I also have found that since looking at other peoples pictures that my own are not as great of quality when you try to print them out or blow them up. But it works good still.

Similar Products Used:

I have used many cameras before but never a digital.

Customer Service:

Never had to call them.

Review 2 of 28

Summary:

Well to begin this review, I had won this Camera at an Auction for $179, not bad considering the lowest I could find this Camera retail was $299, after seeing the other reviews and sample pictures I pretty much knew what to expect, good standard pictures, bad no zoom/closeups. To my surprise, the DC200 exceeded my expectations, and I was very happy results and the ease of use with this Camera. The DC200 was easy to learn and operate, it isnt too ergonmic but I dont find that much of a problem, The viewer is a little small but I can manage, however that is me and not everybody so I think people that have eye problems should check this out before buying. However the DC200 also an option to view the images on the LCD instead, which is more convienient, but uses the batteries resource's fast. Taking Pictures with the DC200 was easy and also easy to adjust the settings. Standard pictures were very good and exceeded expectations also however one thing that the DC200 lacked that I felt was important was zoom. While I could take close-ups and though it was good it wasnt sharp and wasn't sufficient enough for me, I think it will be enough for most other people though, also it did not come with a Lens cap and I find myself worrying about scratching the lens. Overall the DC200 is excellent for the Average person who wants to take pictures of friends/family/cars and I think it it worth $300 and not worth more as there are other cameras with higher resolutions and include zoom for the same price and come packaged with and Rechargable NIMH batteries and Chargers. Also the transfer times between the computer and the camera via the standard serial connector were very slow was rather annoying and I would highly recommend buying an usb compactflash reader for an additional $40 and also rechageable batteries since they are not included and larger compactflash cards are imortant if you are the type that takes lots of pictures. Herb

Strengths:

Good quality high resolution shots, I got it at a great deal, good colors, Ease of use , Great photos after a bit of modifying in Photoshop

Weaknesses:

No lens cap, No zoom, Expensive (if purchasing retail)compared to alernatives that have higher resolutions and come with NIMH batteries and charger, Discontinued product, Slow transfers

Summary:

I used this camera for 6 months and e-mailed pictures of the kids to my husband in Bosnia. The photos came out great, they were not fuzzy and the color was impeccable. An all around great camera for trips too. You get the quality of the old 35mm camera but you can retrieve the pictures in LESS than an hour and reprints are free too!

Strengths:

Very easy to use even for beginners like me.

Weaknesses:

Review 4 of 28

Summary:

I bought this camera based on reviews at this site. Everyone seemed happy with it and the price was right. I have used a Snappy video capture device which is really cool but the pictures from my Kodak 200 are way better. It also seems like the pictures are as good as or better than the ones I have seen from a much more expensive Cannon digital camera a colleague of mine had. It is true that the lens limits what you can do with outside landscape shots but it is absolutely great indoors and for closeups. I get decent results with the medium quality and resolution settings which allows for a few more pictures on the 4MB card. I guess a bigger card would solve space problems with higher resolution. The camera seems pretty flexible to me and very easy to understand and use. You hardly have to read the manual to be able to start taking pictures. On a recent trip to San Francisco my dad was jealous that many of my digital pictures looked better than his 35mm shots. As for the battery situation, I don't have much experience with other digitals but I have had decent luck with regular old rechargable batteries. I just keep a few extra sets in the camera case and change them out when I need to. Using the viewfinder instead of the screen to take pictures saves a lot of juice. This seems like a great camera for someone who wants to take decent digital snapshots without investing a lot of money. Of course it won't replace a good 35mm SLR. The few drawbacks that everyone talks about won't be too much of a bother for the casual user. I recently got a screw-on telephoto lens which seems to help marginally. You can't use the viewfinder with it and it seems to throw off the exposure a little outside. If you really want to take pictures at all ranges, you might consider something with a zoom lens.

Strengths:

Low cost Easy to use Good quality

Weaknesses:

Hard to get clear pictures far away. Lens is good for only closeups

I haven't needed it so far

Summary:

This is my first digital camera and I love it. It's easy to use, I was never able to use my 35MM and take good pictures. I've had it for over one year now and find that I'm looking at other digital cameras with zoom lens because the 200 is only good if you take pictures very close to the subject. This weakness did not bother me at first but after a year I find it is really necessary to be able to zoom. This camera is very good for the price range I find that I would have to spend $800 to $900 to get a camera with a good zoom feature. The Picture it software that comes with the camera is excellent. I agree with the other reviews on the lens cap,and battery problems. Overall it is a good camera and produces great pictures for the money but if you can afford to buy one with a zoon lens I would go for it as you will get tired of only close up shots of subjects.

Strengths:

Great pictures

Weaknesses:

No Zoom Lens cap Batteries
