Summary:

Camera works well. I love the fact that you can see the pictures immediately on the screen and record sound to go with it. The camera goes through A LOT of batteries (about one set of four for every 20 pictures depending on how much you view the pictures without having it plugged into an outlet).

Strengths:

Great Options!

Weaknesses:

Too rough on batteries.

Customer Service:

I've called customer service and they are wonderful to work with.

Summary:

This camera is just the thing for the photographer who has experience with film type cameras. It closely resembles a film-type camera and handles just the same. The ease of use is just the start. the range of photo qualitys are a real plus along with the "burst mode" and the time lapse this is my pick for the camera to make the switch with. and with the prices comming down this just makes it better.

Strengths:

Ease of use, Zoom feature

Weaknesses:

Battery life, only 8Megs strorage came with the camers (larger cards avail.)

Review 3 of 18

Summary:

I've wanted a digital camera for a while to make webpage photos and send photos to family members via email. I bought the DC220 on the spur of the moment because the price was right. I'm pretty impressed with the DC220 so far. Although others have complained about battery life, I've probably taken 50 pictures with the cheap batteries that came with the camera. In the meantime, I've purchased a set of NiMh batteries. At least the DC220 uses normal AA batteries, rather than some custom (and expensive) battery pack. The Digita OS that's built into the camera is pretty impressive. Be sure to go to the Kodak website and download the latest version (1.0.6) of the firmware. It speeds up various operations, including turning the camera on. The Digita OS supports its own scripting language. You can download various scripts to the camera to do all sorts of things, like help you take panoramic shots. See http://www.digitacamera.com/ for lots of scripts. You can easily write your own scripts, too. The scripting language supports the camera to the Nth degree. For instance, it's possible to determine minute details such as the charging rate of the strobe, or whether the camera is rotated vertically left or right. The Digita OS also supports custom app development. The MAME folks have ported their game interpreter to Digita. You can run the arcade version of Donkey Kong on the LCD on the back of the camera (see http://digita.mame.net/). The fact that the DC220 has a 66 mHz PowerPC and 6 mb of ram is pretty impressive. The camera comes with both serial and USB connections. Kodak doesn't supply a Windows 2000 Twain compatible USB driver. However, Windows 2000 built-in USB support works well with the camera. I thought the "record a sound" feature was kind of a gimick until tonight. I took a picture of my daughter playing the piano and attached a 45 sec clip of her actual playing to the picture. I was then able to mail both the picture and the sound to my parents. And finally, I've been impressed with the pictures the camera takes.

Strengths:

Powerful OS. Scriptable features.

Weaknesses:

Only 1 megapixels.

Summary:

Great camera @ $399 The H.P. C-30 was real close but mine got stolen

Strengths:

Easy to use. I like the options this has. Zoom feature is great. Got it at onsale.com for $399.00 At this price you cant beat it. Comes w/ac adapter.

Weaknesses:

A little on the bulky side. Your nose smudges the LCD. You cant recharge the battries while in the camera like the H.P. models.

Summary:

> -- The digita OS is really cool - I personally think > this has a great potential - the camera menu has > more the look and feel of a real application and > is easy to use. New scripts are easy to install with > the Digita software (version 1.1). For example > there's a script that displays the battery status - > wish my Canon had that ... > I installed a script that takes pictures whenever > something moves in front of the camera! > The tic tac toe game I also installed wasn't that > great .... > A ruler script that allows to measure objects from > far away sounds really cool - but wasn't supported > by the 220 model ... > With the software developers kit everybody can > write his own software for the camera - I didn't > check that out - but it seems straightforward - > for a programmer ;-) > The remote control feature is also great - you can > control the camera with the computer - I don't > think any other camera has that feature ... > The download of the photos with the USB and > the digita software was a peace of cake and very > fast - we should test the transfer from one camera > to the other using the infrared interface - those guys > at Kodak must have been really bored .... > > -- The drawback of the digita OS is that now you > have to boot up your camera before you can use it - > forget about snapshots ...

Strengths:

he Kodak 220 isn't a bad camera - megapixel, 2x optical zoom, flash card, standard batteries, USB support - not too bad. The camera allows to record sound with every photo - this is a great feature - every camera should have that!

Weaknesses:

I just didn't like the photo quality a lot and the camera feels kind of cheap with all the plastic.

Similar Products Used:

I currently have a Canon Powershot S10 - had a Panasonic PC1000 for one and a half year and tried various other digital cams like Sony, Casio, Polaroid ...
