Price Paid:  $769.00 from Circuit City

Summary:

I truly enjoy my new camara. The pictures come out very clear and the battery has a long life. I will be buying a Kodak camara in the future/ I would buy it again.

Strengths:

Great lens. The zoom works really great. Also, it is really great at taking short videos and the focus is second to none.

Weaknesses:

It really has none that I have noticed. It is one of the few products that I haven't had any problems with.

Similar Products Used:

None, first Kodak Camara.

Customer Service:

Average, it was not what I would call fast, but then again it wouldn't be customer service if it was!

Review 2 of 70

Price Paid:  $150.00 from Ebay

Summary:

I picked this Camera up after reading a few reviews on it. For $150 on a $800-1k priced camera in 98 I can't complain. I brought it for use during my family reunion this year, (be taking portrits shots) of all attending). I downloaded the new firmwear 1.7 to help stop the reddness in room light. From the few pratice shots I've taken this camera is great and paired up with the HP Photosmart 130 printer It delivers outstanding pic's and will be a big hit this summer at the reunion.

Strengths:

$150 for $800 camera even if is 5 years old technology. It has more bells and beeps than most newer Dig-cameras at $200-300 range. Recordable sound with pic and text overlays

Weaknesses:

From the other reviews "eats regular Batteries"

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

I purchased my DC-260 almost 3 years ago and have only recently used it to it''s full potential. I am not a photographer, so I wanted to dive into the digital realm due to my complete lack of ability to take pictures (not really that bad, but you get the idea). I have seen many reviews regarding the size of the camera, the battery life, etc. I purchased the DC-260 due to the fact that it looked like a camera. There are newer cameras out now and many of them are much smaller. This is not for me. I like the added weight and size of the DC-260. Ok, now the techhie stuff: CompactFlash storage - the best storage for your money. CF has a capacity of 1gb. This should be more than enough storage for anyone! I recently purchased 2 128mb CF cards and these should give me around 500 pictures at the highest resolution (1.6megapixel). That''s more than enough for a weekend trip. Batteries - shipped with regular alkalines. The life is very short, and since I was new to the camera, I wanted to use the LCD. Big mistake! I upgraded to some rechargeable NiMHs - not much better. Recently purchased a Quantum QB1C battery pack. This thing is amazing! I can take over 750 pictures on a full 3 hours charge (less if the LCD panel is used, but I can still take over 200 pictures if I use it). It connects to the AC connector and screws into the tripod mount on the bottom of the camera. Expandability - there are lens adapters for the DC-260''s zoom lens, which adds 37mm threads and allows accessory lenses and filters to be added. I have a 2x telephoto lens from Tiffen, which doesn''t do too bad a job - it''s not like the pros, but does what I want it to. Picture quality - amazing pictures! I only print out 4x6 pictures, so this camera does just fine. The colors are bright and the ability to edit them after the fact is a plus for me (I used Adobe Photoshop). Other features - I''ve noticed the lack of Windows 2000 support being mentioned. Basically, ignore Kodak''s software. You don''t need it in Win2000. I plugged the camera into the USB port and it was recognized and installed in seconds. Adobe Photoshop can acquire and transfer directly from the camera. You can''t make settings to the camera while connected though.

Strengths:

''Unlimited'' storage using CF cards Ease of use Expandability with accessory lenses and filters

Weaknesses:

Little slow to boot Battery hungry - skip the alkaline or NiMHs and get a power pack Windows 2000 support minimal - 3rd party software needed

Similar Products Used:

None - this is the first digital camera for me

Review 4 of 70

Summary:

I have owned this camera since Jan 99 and have been waiting for the new models to improve significantly enough to upgrade. For snapshots, this camera is and has been wonderful. It ate batteries like crazy until I bought a set of NiMh for it - which last very long. I've been pro-Kodak since I bought this camera, talking my mom and a friend into buying one too. Last night I took a few shots of Jupiter through the eyepiece of my telescope - I was really excited to see my first astrophotos. Jupiter looked incredible, much more colorful than when looking through the eyepiece - but I noticed a few white spots and one red spot (they weren't stars). I thought they may be caused by a long exposure time (1/2 second) so I started looking at other photos taken recently. Sure enough, all of the pictures I have taken in the past three months have the same white spots and one red one. Does this mean the CCDs deterorate over time? Will it continue to get worse, with more spots? I probably won't send the camera in for service since it will soon be outdated, but I'm a little wary of spending another grand for a camera that may only last a couple of years. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? I'm on picture 2,038 - surely the sensors last longer than that? Even with the spots, the pictures are great (they can be cloned out and non-photographers will never see them) - I wish I could afford one of the Nikon bodies with a Kodak back.

Strengths:

One of the first consumer digital cameras to offer "photo quality" images. Kodak pioneered the USB connection for digital cameras - have you ever tried to upload an image from a camera with only a serial connection? (It takes FOREVER!)

Weaknesses:

The camera is too slow to focus and shoot. I will definitly look at this closely with my next digital camera - It is difficult to take anything but a posed shot since the camera takes up to a second to shoot after pressing the "sutter release". At close-up range, the rangefinder is not accurate to the lens (much higher) requiring use of the LCD (which is a joke) or taking multiple shots. Also, every picture is very compressed - everything in the frame is in focus, sometimes a good thing, but usually making everyting look very two-dimensional. I would like to set the virtual aperature or at least have portrait v. landscape mode.

Similar Products Used:

This was my first digital camera. Prints and emails of its images convinced my friend to buy one (DC265) and my mother to buy a 210. I have formal training and years of experience with 35mm photography and can't wait for digital cameras to equal SLRs in performance and price.

Review 5 of 70

Summary:

I found the camera to be a bit overpriced for what you get. OK for just fun shots, but needs color adjustments to make accurate. Too much to fuss with for me.

Strengths:

Easy to use 1.6 megapixel

Weaknesses:

Soft, not as sharp as it should be. Colors were on the warm side, not accurate enough. Slow OS response time, no burst shots.

None
