Price Paid:  $250.00 from Ebay

Summary:

After using a couple of simple point and shoot digitals for a few years I decided to upgrade to something with more options. I have always been impressed by Kodak digital cameras. I got this one on Ebay without paying too much. I like the style of the camera (controls, shape, etc) and it comes with lots of goodies like a battery charger, various cables and a huge manual. It has a nice zoom and many features that allow flexibility and are easy to set. Unfortunately you cannot adjust f stops or speed although you can compensate up to +/- 2 ev. It is possible to add additional lenses and filter with an adapter which works well. This camera doesn't have the flexibility of an SLR but it gives a lot for the money. I find that mine does not go through batteries as fast as some digitals do and if I carry an extra set of rechargeables I can shoot over 100 pictures. I recently took a trip to northern Michigan and shot over 400 pictures in various situations. Overall I'm pretty happy with the camera. It gives pretty good quality pictures at various distances from the subject. My camera did produce some bad results in a couple situations. First it seems to change reds to pinks. I downloaded a firmware update to hopefully correct that. Second, I noticed that with some outdoor shots where there was a contrast between sunlight areas and shadows the camera tended to overexpose and wash out sunlight areas while underexposing shadows. This caused faces to be dark and shadow covered while backgrounds were washed out. Also, the sky was gray more often than blue on many of my outdoor shots. Overall I'm happy with the camera and would recommend it for anyone wanted a little extra flexibility and decent digital quality without spending a lot of money. Of course there are now higher resolution cameras with many features on the market but this one can still hold its own.

Strengths:

Decent flexibility, good Kodak quality uses rechargeable AA batteries and Compact Flash cards which are easy to find and flexible to use. Comes with lots of accesories. Easy to download pictures. Can produce good 8x10s from printers.

Weaknesses:

Red to pink color shift and some tricky exposure problems outside in sunlight and shadows. Long wait to turn on or shut off while lens extracts/retracts.

Similar Products Used:

Kodak dc210 (non-zoom), Largan Lmini, Snappy, Kodak web cam.

Customer Service:

Have not used but the website seems fairly helpful.

Review 2 of 35

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

My camera''s taken about 900 pictures. I took about 50 of them last night (switching out batteries, of course, since this drains them extremely fast). A few minutes later, I turned the camera back on, and the lens failed to extend for a few seconds, finally did, then the camera shut itself off. I let it cool off overnight, but it looks like it''s dead. I followed all the instructions on Kodak''s website for cases where the camera won''t turn on, and still nothing (they have a web page, for this model, specifically about that?!). I called Kodak''s help center about it, and was told that since I can''t produce a receipt, it will cost $160 for the repair (ridiculous)!

Customer Service:

Nice web site, poor customer service. This camera is not very old - it should not be dying from just one hour of use. My customer service rep was unsympathetic. I am *so* not buying another Kodak p

Summary:

Great camera with beautiful high resolution pictures. Resolution is good enough to let you crop and still be able to print with good resolution. Also excellent camera control, with shutter adjustments and long exposure or multiple timer exposure... and much more.

Strengths:

Resolution COLOR!!! Good amount of camera control tripod mount

Weaknesses:

Occasionally have to reboot my computer to read a new card when I change it out with the camera connected (i dont't think this would happen if I had a new operating system -- windows 95 )

Similar Products Used:

DC280 Sony Mavica lots of conventional cameras

Customer Service:

Can print excellent prints as the kodak site. can search for technical help online. and they e-mailed back when I emailed them.

Summary:

Easy to use. Good picture quality, poor color recreation reds turn out pink. Multiple ways to download images, but optional flashcard reader is the way to go. Like versatility of AA batteries. Great software.

Strengths:

AA batteries, ease of use, ease of using menu, overall size, software package, flashcard storeage size options.

Weaknesses:

Slow download times on serial port, framing close-up pictures, what you see is not what you get, relatively slow capture time, plastic battery and flashcard store doors don’t inspire long term use confidence.
