Summary:

Outstanding multi-purpose travel film for difficult and/or varied lighting conditions. I just returned from a trip to Tuscany, shooting in the streets in the noon summer sun- excellent shadow and highlight detail, nice skin tones. Fuji Provia 100 or 400 would never have coped in this situation. Nice to be able to shoot a slide film without worrying about blowing the highlights or blocking the shadows. Pushes very well 1 stop (exposed at 320). I'm told you can push two stops.

Strengths:

Good highlight and shadow detail, nice skin tones, saturated colour. Grain is noticeable but not unpleasant. Excellent push processing response

Weaknesses:

Might be too grainy for some. Not as sharp as Provia or Velvia films

Summary:

Kodak recommended I rate their E200 at 320 and process it at a one stop push. The results were fantastic. Sharp with brilliant colors. There was very little grain seen on large projection and scanning. This film also scans extremely well. I have been an avid fujichrome user (velvia/provia). However, my new experience with this film has given me reason to switch to E200. I also tried Kodachrome 64 recently and was amazed at the sharpness and color accuracy of this chrome. I will no loner knock Kodak products. However, my print film favorite is still Fuji Reala. I used a mailer from Kodak for film processing and believe they process their own slide film better than other pro labs.

Excellent sharpness Very little grain Can be pushed without noticable degradation

Weaknesses:

Expensive

Summary:

I've used about 6 rolls of this film. Conditions ranged from indoor with flash to outdoors in different kinds of light(sunny, overcast...). It has nice skin tones and smooth contrast that's not dull nor harsh. The color balance is a tad on the warm side, and I like that. Saturation is middle of the road-not natural and "weak" as I call it like Kodachrome, nor over the top like Velvia 50 or E100VS. Compared to 100 speed film, it's not the grain that bothers me. It's a loss of sharpness and detail. Overall, it's a nice fast slide film, but I tried pushing E100VS a stop and will stick with that.

Strengths:

moderately fast skin tones contrast color balance and saturation

Weaknesses:

pricey I don't think one stop of light is worth the loss of detail

Summary:

This film does indeed live up to its reputation insofar as it produces very saturated yet accurate color with low grain. It can be used for anything with excellent results...portraits to landscapes. It's the answer for travelers who are looking for an all purpose film that can be counted on. It allows medium quality slow lenses to function marvelously in most lighting situations. I just returned from shooting hundreds of slides under all conditions in Ecuador and I am very pleased at how sharp and true-color the shots were. The extra speed made a critical difference with my new F3.5 24-85 ED_IF Nikkor Zoom, compared to 100speed. I could have pushed it further, but it wasn't necessary.

Strengths:

I am greatly relieved to find a film that does all the things I need so well. Great color, accuracy and sharpness, without the extreme contrast that deadens shadow detail.

Weaknesses:

It's a bit expensive, not widely available, probably should be refrigerated.

Similar Products Used:

Almost all slide films. The other great film is Kodak SW100. If you have the large glass this is slightly better than E200 Pro, but trickier to develop.

Summary:

Color on this film kicks! If this film is properly exposed and developed at a good lab, this is a great film, with very sharp, if processed correctly.

Strengths:

Great color, sharpness, great for landscapes and people. Great for pushing, per Kodak specs.

Weaknesses:

It's pick about processing, make sure you take it to a lab that understands this film, if they don't or they are trying to cut costs your results aren't great. Make sure you understand how to shoot a 200 speed film! If you don't stick with your tripod and slow film.
