Review 1 of 9

Price Paid:  $20.00 from pro camera store

Summary:

I'm with the latter reviews, ie the harsh ones. I did not like what I got from this film. I typically use Fuji slide film. I suppose I could find ways to use this film & its characteristics, but for a 400 film this is waaay too grainy for me.

Strengths:

Speed - but at a price.

Weaknesses:

Far too much grain, poor latitude, purplish cast. Nowhere near sharp enough for me. Highlights seemed to blowout far more than a Fuji film.

Similar Products Used:

Fuji variants - they are all FAR superior to this film.

Review 2 of 9

Price Paid:  $11.00 from local shop

Summary:

Not a good film. You can buy a cheaper and better one.

Strengths:

Almost none, except the speed. I bought one 'cause I have to; I ran out of film and has to buy this stuff.

Weaknesses:

Grain, grain. RMS 19. I can see an old Sensia's (RMS:13) gain, when it was projected about 20x30 inches. (with an old german slide projector, standing next to it) The graininess of this film not the only one bad thing: the sharpness isn't better. It seemed to me that the grain didn't give "romantical" air to the photos. They showed squared granularity. Something similar if I photographed to emery paper. Color accuracy is wrong. I actually photograph nature, but with this film I had taken portraits; every showed a yellow flesh tone. Some birds: still far from perfect. Green is greyish, dark (that would be good)but dull, boring.

Similar Products Used:

Provia 400. That was cheaper, and far, far better. Don't bother you with this stuff.

Customer Service:

You may download a PDF file from Kodak and compare the technical parameters of this film with others. That really represents the value of this film.

Review 3 of 9

Price Paid:  $2.00 from ebay

Summary:

will never buy this film again. Fuji Provia 400f is ways better. A liitle more expensive, but you can make a slide presentation with that. I bought 10 roll pack and can't finish it. It seems, all shots are out of focus.

Strengths:

Colors are ok on sunny days.

Weaknesses:

the grain is so obvious, I can't show these slides on a big screen.

Similar Products Used:

velvia, e100s, e200, provia, sensia, astia

Review 4 of 9

Price Paid:  $8.00 from Atlantic Filmworks

Summary:

Disappointed with some of the reviews I read here before seeing the results of my roll. I was pleased with the results. If you like realism and need the speed, this one fits the bill.

Strengths:

If you want realism, Elite Chrome 400 gives you that. No exaggerated colors. Faithful to what I saw through my lens. I used it in candle light, with tripod and shot crystal wine glasses. Excellent color fidelity and sharpness with no discernible grain in sharp areas - only in blurred background areas - but not unpleasant at all. Also shot pets with indirect ambient interior light. Sharp and as I saw them.

Weaknesses:

Perhaps could improve on details in the shadows. Better latitude perhaps?

Similar Products Used:

none. Many print films

Customer Service:

none

Review 5 of 9

Price Paid:  $4.00 from CVS Pharmacy

Summary:

I agree with the previous reviewer. The first reviews trashed this film excessively.
This is not my favourite film, but the film has not disappointed me when used in a point and shoot camera. Obviously not as good as 100 speed film. Results are good enough when the extra speed is necessary.

Strengths:

2 extra stops of Speed.
The pictures I took look reasonable - but obviously not as good as 100 speed film.

Weaknesses:

not my favorite - not as sharp as 100. Only tried 4 rolls of this film.

Similar Products Used:

you name it.
