Review 1 of 6

Price Paid:  $500.00 from RITZ

Summary:

The camera takes very good pictures when it works.

Strengths:

NA

Weaknesses:

Bought the camera Jan of 01. 6mo. later the zoom lense started sticking, sent it in to Minolta under warranty, they didn't repair mine but sent me soneone elses reject that was refurbished. The refurbished reject lasted 12 mo. this time with the same problem only worse, lock up the camera solid. Talked to Ritz Camera, they tell me now that they have had problems not only with the 304 but the 404 also. It looks like a design flaw to me. STAY AWAY FROM MINOLTAS S304, 404, AND 414 MODELS

Similar Products Used:

Canon A10

Customer Service:

Stinks, instead of repairing or replacing my camera with new one, they send me someone elses reject they refurbised

Review 2 of 6

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

this camera is good for novoice to intermediate level, I bought this because it beat the price of same class cameras with similar control of manual function. I find Minolta lens give a natural output (after color matching) than other cameras. The sharpness of GT lens is above average. If the manual controls more than just AP priority, longer shutter speed, this is a perfect price/performance camera

Weaknesses:

auto white balance at indoor atomsphere without flash turn yellow, dark exporsure to noisy, lens extension when power on is not necessary for setup and computer connection mode

Similar Products Used:

dimage 2330

Review 3 of 6

Price Paid:  $369.00 from mpsuperstore.com

Summary:

Excellent optics and picture quality, especially for a compact digital. Macro feature works well. Count on investing in NiMh batteries because this camera eats alkalines whole. The software doesn''t have the best interface or the most features but it does do a very good job at color correction and has batch processing capabiltity. Movie recording with audio feature is nice, will record up to the remain space on the CF card with standard VCD quality output. Can''t beat it for the price.

Strengths:

Excellent output Lots of customization

Weaknesses:

no external flash sync cannot independetly lock AE and AF (both lock at same time)

None

Review 4 of 6

Price Paid:  $400.00 from B&H (NYC)

Summary:

Saw reviews on dpreview.com, and a few others that convinced me that this camera was worth trying out. Got a great deal at B&H - only $400. So far very happy. Pictures are very good. This is a bargin 3Mp right now. Dimage 5 and 7 may also be had at very good deals - check out forums on dpreview.com for how to do it. It''s got a lot of features, but not a few that more discerning enthusiasts will want - so 4 on features and 5 on value.

Strengths:

Great lens. Images are sharp. Colors are good - and are even better after running them through the Minolta software.

Weaknesses:

Tripod mount poorly placed. We knew this going in and just don''t care. I''ve got lots of SLRs if I want to do tripod work.

Similar Products Used:

none - never used a digital before. Have extensive experience with normal SLRs.
