Review 1 of 3

Price Paid:  $210.00 from eBay

Summary:

A good little camera. Most of the strengths and weaknesses are typical to it's class, but the antishake is a big help, and only some evfs have it. Also the dedicated flash in very unusual in this category and a real boon for any serious flash use. Beware however, it will only work with very recent Minolta flashes - not older Maxxum ones like the 3500xi.

Strengths:

Antishake
Dedicated hot shoe
12X zoom
Compact size
Completeness of controls (3 types of metering, flash exposure compensation, etc.)
Good handgrip (it looks weird, but it works)

Weaknesses:

Metering defaults to 1/3 stop underexposure (probably to avoid burned out highlights)
Finicky autozoom
High noise at ISO 400
Occasional poserization of colors
Can't do a decent job a tracking a moving object
Autofocus hunts when dark (especially at tele end)

Review 3 of 3

Price Paid:  $0.00 from Broadway Photo

Summary:

Bought a Z3 a couple of weeks ago. The antishake is really amazing. With other cameras I was having trouble holding even a 3x zoom without shake. With this one I immediately went out and did hand held test shots up to the full 48x optical + digital zoom and found no blur due to shake at all.

Strengths:

Antishake. Also, it orked immediately with an SD card formatted on a Palm Pilot. No need for reformat. And the images were then viewable on the Palm.

Weaknesses:

Have used the camera only briefly, but have found no unusual weaknesses. I am pleased to have it.

Similar Products Used:

Canon A70. The overall image quality might be a little better with the Canon, except for its lower megapixel count. The Z3 does seem to show appropriately higher resolution than the A70, as its 4MP rating versus 3MP would indicate. I like them both.
