Price Paid:  $2000.00

Summary:

Nothing like it in any other system, period.

Strengths:

If you enjoy shooting in a mood filled ambiance(Almost no light)then I can think of no other lens that will do the trick like the Noctilux. Extremely pleasing and beautiful results are possible with this lens. Does not matter if you shoot in B/w or color. Your photos will stop looking like everyone elses. Superb sharpness and saturation wide open. If you really are into getting creative with natural light buy this lens!

Weaknesses:

None

Review 2 of 6

Summary:

This is a lens with unique and outstanding optical characteristics. Many long time Leica users complain about the size and weight of this lens, however, if you also use SLRs and have worked with SLR zoom lenses and even most of the fixed focal length variety, the Noctilux is small and compact by comparison to these. This is a lens for use primarily, in very low lighting situations. In these conditions, at apertures between F1 and F4, its performance cannot be matched. What I like most about this lens, is the way it renders the background areas of an image when shooting with a shallow depth of field. The out of focus areas have a smooth, fluid quality, that gives images the three-dimensional quality or "imprint" that people traditionally have identified as being the "Leica look." It is my favorite lens.

Strengths:

Extremely Fast and beautiful "Bokeh"

Weaknesses:

Very expensive and slightly obscures veiw finder.
