The Microtech PCD-40 has been engineered with the needs of the digital photographer as a priority. When used in a typical digital photography application, the use of a PC card reader to transfer images from a full "digital film" card is at least 100 times faster than using the built-in serial connection found on most digital cameras. Also, by using a separate reader, the camera is not required to be tethered to the computer during image transfer. In other applications the reader/writer can be used as a very convenient method of transferring large data files from a notebook or handheld PC to a desktop computer.
