Summary:
Excellent macro,insects and flowers brilliant.Other shots shutter lag hopeless. None the less its my exclusive macro camera,no complaints there at all

Summary:
The Nikon Coolpix takes beautiful outdoor pictures. They are stunning to look at. However it's low light performance is an absolute joke. In anything other than good lighting , the camera won't be able to focus at all. The camera also has a terrible shutter lag that will have subjects walking away before you can even get a "green light".

Strengths:
Takes beautiful crystal clear outdoor pictures

Weaknesses:
Ridiculously long shutter lag. Inability to focus in anything other than moderately bright light

Summary:
Overall I am extremely pleased with this camera. It replaced a 990 which was also an excellent camera for my own personal taste. The controls are for the most part easy to use. Having three user modes is a must. It allows me to switch to different saved settings with a push of a button and a turn of the dial. Navigating the menu system takes too long to change settings. Too easy to loose the moment. One accessory that should have been standard on this camera is the extended grip. I use it always, with 6 NiMH batteries. I do carry a spare set, just in case. These batteries last 3 times longer than the stock rechargable battery. The camera is also much easier to handle with less tendency to cover the flash sensor with my finger(s). Startup time is slow, I leave the camera on with the lcd off so I can take a picture when needed.

Strengths:
Solid construction, excellent image quality.

Weaknesses:
Grip does not come stock with camera. Digital zoom feature gives terrible results. Slow startup time. Slow focus in dim light.

Summary:
I used this for about a week before my 5700 came in as a loaner. be honest lots of features but the picture quality was about the same as a casio 3500 3 megapxl camera I have had for a couple years.. Im glad the 5700 wasnt the same way.. bottom line skip this camera buy a 5700 nikon or a minolta dimage (7??) comes in 3 flavors. all have better picture quality than the 5000.. ide rate this an overall 7.5/10.

Strengths:
lots of setting that kake it good choice for a pro or someone whi is an advance photographer. has basic setting so anyone can use it out of the box.

Weaknesses:
slow recycle of the flash.. picture quality 8/10 and needs correction.

well can only comment on the nikon 5700.. which died twice in 2 months (got a lemon) doesnt happen often with nikons. Warrantee work was done both times within 2 weeks (should have just replaced it but...)

Summary:
Terrific camera with a few flaws. Image quality impeccible, the menu can be a bit tricky until you get used to it. Availability of very wide angle lenses a big plus. I use the fisheye and 19mm adaptors constantly. A focusing tip-turn off the 5 point autofocusing mode and go to the general mode-focus accuracy in low light intenstifies 10 fold.

Strengths:
Image quality, handling, availabilty of lenses-wide angle in particular. Durability-I'm coming up on 4000 shots without a glitch.

Weaknesses:
Autofocus in low light in the 5 sensor mode. Flash range with on camera flash not great. Availability of on camera hot shoe negates this weakness somewhat though.
