Price Paid:  $500.00 from s/h in Japan

Summary:

Excellent Tessar-type LF lens, which just covers the 8x10" film format. Nikon as apparently stopped making LF lenses, so it's only remaining competitor is the Fujinon-C 300mm/f8.5.
Both lenses are very similar in performance with the Fuji having a slightly more generous stated image circle, so for 8x10" the Fuji might be a bit better. Not much in it though, otherwise. I've used both and if you want something modern and compact (and shoot smaller than 8x10"), you can't go wrong with this lens.
The single coated 305mm/f9 Schneider G-Claron is also reported to be very good.

Strengths:

Excellent optical performance, superb at f16-f22. Compact lens in Copal 1 shutter.
If you're not using 8x10", I would not even think about getting any of the comparatively huge Plasmats (e.g. Symmar, Sironar, Nikkor-W and Fujinon CM-W).

Weaknesses:

Tight image circle on 8x10" at infinity.

Similar Products Used:

Tried Fuji-C 300mm f8.5 once on 4x5 and 5x7, but already had the Nikon and didn't see any practical difference other than possibly IC..
Kodak 12" and 14" f6.3 Commercial-Ektar lenses (still amongst of the best 8x10" standard lenses around!, but found in older shutters).
Similar focal lengths used: 240mm Symmar (In Copal 3; nice, but huge!)
254mm/f6.3 Conley V (uncoated, but amazing, if prone to flare, covers 5x7 with ease)
380mm f5.6 Wollensak Tele (big, although not very heavy, only covers 5x7)

Customer Service:

not needed. Shutter will get serviced this year by Flutot's Camera on California.
