Review 2 of 2

Model Reviewed:
Nikkor W 210mm f/5.6

Summary:

An excellent lens down to about 1:5 or so. For macro work, a macro lens will outperform it (same for Schneider and Rodenstock). Still very good in close range. A very good value on the used market. I gave it a 4 since I give 5's only to APO performance.

Strengths:

Excellent image quality. 70 degree coverage stopped down. Nikon view camera lenses have an image quality similar to their 35mm optics. Sharp, good contrast, good edge delineation. This holds true for this lens. It is comparable optically and mechanically to its peers of its generation - the Symmar-S and Sironar-N. If you like the Nikon look and color palette, this is a fine lens. It has a "harder" look than Schneider.

Weaknesses:

Its not an APO design. Very close, but not APO which will matter if shooting digital. Film performance is excellent. I'm not sure how much longer Nikon will continue to manufacture. Color saturation slightly weaker than Rodenstock (splitting hairs).
