Review 1 of 4

Price Paid:  $255.00 from Sam's Club, Ocala FL

Summary:

Satisfaction with Olympus D490Z but need for more than 3X tele prompted C740UZ buy. in 10/04.Move up from the D490Z's 2.1 megapixels to 3.1 is very evident in sharper images. Use lower resolution for e-mailing 95% of pictures and quite satisfied. A few too many control options for my convenience, but must be great for more experienced users. Would be helpful to provide tele stops or detents at, say, 50 - 100 - 150 - 200mm, etc. 35mm equivilents, but probably a cost deterrent.

Strengths:

Great images. 10X zoom is excellent as long as faster shutter used. Electronic viewfinder shows exact image like SLR in appropriate lighting. Handles comfortably and has and has good battery life.

Weaknesses:

Electronic viewfinder is very difficult to use on bright light and occasionally data appears in it annoyingly. Need $29 adapter to add haze & polarizing filters.

Similar Products Used:

Olympus D490Z used since 04/01 is still a great and handier backup, despite wear problems.

Customer Service:

Olympus hasn't been too helpful with my questions, but obtained needed info from internet elsewhere.

Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

Great camera for the price. I've been a big fan of the C series Olympus cameras. I have always gotten compliments when taking pictures with the camera, especially on bright color and decent shots in low light condition without a flash. much better than many other digitals I've seen.

Strengths:

great color, nice quality

Weaknesses:

occassional issues with the lense not opening..rare

Customer Service:

unused

Review 3 of 4

Price Paid:  $480.00 from National Camera Exch

Summary:

Have only used for 2 months, but find the camera almost all I expected. The mtal case feels very durable; all the dial functions are easy to use; it is a little difficult to learn all the menu functions; however, the PDF instruciotn book on hte CD ROM is very detailed. The 3.2 megapixel creates a crisp clear image, while the telephoto zoom, with the sports setting, gives excellent closeups of sports action. My frustration is trying to rapidly find the subject in the viewfinder when taking telephoto action pictures. It is difficult to see in the viewfinder, especially in bright daylight.

Strengths:

Excellent image quality at 3.2 megapixels. The motorized zoom works smoothly and quickly. There are innumerable options for manually and automatically setting up photos, image quality, and pc software. I'm still learning these.

Weaknesses:

It is difficult ot find the subject through the viewfinder, especially in bright sunlight.

Review 4 of 4

Price Paid:  $490.00 from local store

Summary:

A compact, SLR-like digicam. Various scene modes available for beginners, but all the manual features are there for more advanced users for their creative manipulation. 3 megapixel is just enough for taking super high-quality photos for personal use. And the 10x optical zoom + 3X digital zoom (30x total) is a very nifty and amazing feature for a digicam in this class. My only gripe is its inability to use external flash for more powerful flash photography.

Strengths:

Super Macro capability Spot and multi-pattern metering ED lens 10x optical zoom/3x digital zoom (30x total) Price

Weaknesses:

No external flash connectivity.
