I have used several cameras over the Years. The OM-3 can be a refreshing change from the current micro-chip world of photography. The cameras functions (other than light metering) are all mechanical. When in an environment to harsh or to remote to find batteries this camera still works. The titanium body and nearly all metal components inside this camera are extremely durable (they have put up with a lot of abuse from me). Even though it is 20+ years old, many of the OM-3's designs are still modern and innovative. The low vibration shutter and mirror are patricularly useful. The camera works very well with macro and astrophotography equipment in difficult environments.
The OM-3 with the 90mm macro is still a superb setup for photography of flowers and insects in low light and the camera excells with long lenses.
The size, light weight and simple function are sometimes missed when wrestling around with my Nikon Dx2 and I don't need to find my reading glasses to change setups with the OM-3.

The simple manual setting need more planning to obtain good images. This can be a refreshing reminder of what the light is actually doing inside the lens and camera.

The OM-1 is a fraction of the price and just as usable

Having used the OM System for many years, I purchased this camera when Olympus announced its discontinuation, as I wish to use the system well into the future. It is typical pedigree OM. The finish is beautiful, controls are minimal and well placed. If you have used an OM3, 4, or 4Ti, the metering systems will be familiar. The results are consistently good and errors are the fault of the user, not camera.
Strengths:
Super bright viewfinder, especilly when used with faster glass e.g.Zuiko 50mm f1.2 lens. Multi Spot Metering, flash syncronisation at all shutter speeds when used with F280 flash, build quality.
Excellent feel. Center-weighted images and spot metering on par. Little pricy; however a long time Olympus user and bought because it is now discontinued. If anything like my OM 2N-will probably last forever with hundreds of rolls shot. Love its total manual control.

Summary:
this is not the camera to buy if you want to get into Olympus OM system. i love this camera for it's controls and light weight feel, but that's about it. to be honest i would suggest getting into an OM-2n, or OM-4. Olympus Om lenses hasn't change since the 70's and most of the newer lenses lack the quality of the lenses made during the 70's and mid 80's. Buy the system USED!! i did and i'm satisfied. The OM system is probably the best deal in the second hand market.
if you have this kind of money to spend on a body~ try going towards a Leica SLR system. other than that...this one goes back into the original box w/ the paper work, and let it increase in it's cult status value.
I have been using my Olympus OM 3 Ti for 3 Years and I am very satisfied. After I had bought it, I couldn't take my hands of it. It feels great in hands. I have never seen better viewfinder. I think OM 3 Ti is overpriced. Great weakness is that no more new Zuiko lens are available.
