Review 1 of 8

Price Paid:  $1299.00 from Henry's

Summary:

I bought this camera the day it came out at the local store. Dec 13th. Took it on my x-mas trip to England and shot over 200 shots with it. This camera is excellent. This is my first D-SLR but I have used film SLR's and upgraded to the E-300 from an old Olympus C-4000. Image quality is superb, this 8mp sensor is much better than the 6mp sensors in other D-SLR's. Color reproduction is very good, in my opinion better than D70 and D-Rebel. Autofocus is fantastic, fast and does not search at all. This camera is excellent for beginners with 14 auto-programs, and very well designed and layed out for advanced users. Kit lens is very good, and I can't wait to build my lens collection with Zuiko digital lenses. Pop-up Flash is excellent outdoors, worked nearly perfect everytime. A few problems indoors with the flash and WB but I think this was more me figuring out the camera, as many of the shots were also excellent. I am very happy with my E-300 purchase, and starting to build my Olympus E-system

Strengths:

Excellent Image Quality Very easy to use High Build Quality Fast Autofocus Superb battery life

Weaknesses:

Indoor white balance sometimes comes out yellowish with auto-WB but manual setting works fine

Similar Products Used:

Never used a D-SLR before this one, but researched all entry level D-SLR's intensively prior to purchase

Customer Service:

Used Olympus Customer Service on old C4000 and they were great, fast service no problems.

Strengths:

Lightness, easy to hold, speed. excellant lenses. NO DUST! Very easy to upgrade. Well built.

Weaknesses:

Bigger buffer

Review 4 of 8

Price Paid:  $620.00 from eBay

Summary:

I've been a Zuiko fan for years, and have 21 OM Zuikos, mostly fast wides and macros. I've been holding out for a digital that was up to these lenses, and here it is! The E-300 is lightweight and relatively small. the 4/3rds System started out fairly small, but is building quickly with world-class lenses that currently better anything available for digital. The 7-14/4 alone is reason to buy this camera! Other dSLR makers have given access to loads of inferior (at least for digital) glass, especially for those of us who love wide angle.

Strengths:

Top notch glass, best-of-class macro and wide angle capabilities.

Weaknesses:

Lack of PC socket for studio strobes. Lack of cable release, except via the optional grip. Lack of dedicated DOF control. Lack of short extension tubes for wide macro.

Similar Products Used:

E-20n, D-600L, numerous OM bodies and lenses

Customer Service:

WONDERFUL! Olympus America sent me a FREE OM adaptor upon request!

Review 5 of 8

Price Paid:  $859.00 from Costco

Summary:

Bought the camera for a trip because I needed a second camera to my D-Rebel. Wanted to try it out. After the trip I liked e300 better. It feels better in my hands. The colors out of the camera are the best I have seen from a DSLR. More options in the menus than other in this price range.

Strengths:

Dust Buster. Lenes. Quality Build. Color Reproduction. Mirror lock-up. Smaller telephoto lenses. Uses older lenses with adapters.

Weaknesses:

High iso noise (not that bad, noise reduction software works)

Similar Products Used:

Digital Rebel, Sony F707

Customer Service:

Great! Called them about a question and got my answer and got the OM to Fourthirds Adapter for free.
