Customer Service:

Olympus Emporium will deliver the camera but not all the advertized software. Sent Adobe Elements not Photoshop 5.0LE and did not send Genuine Fractals at all. Send that they were no longer available

Review 3 of 9

Price Paid:  $479.00 from Ebay

Summary:

The E-100RS is an excellent camera. It has one fault, the 1.4 megapixel CCD. They are 1.4 very good megapixels, capable of very good prints up to 8x10", but 6x8" is more realistic. The E-100RS has a very comprehensive set of photographic controls, complete exposure, exposure compensation, bracketting, including flash bracketting white balance and 2nd curtain flash sync. The top shutter speed is 1/10,000, which is exceptional considering most digicams top out at far lower speeds. Flash sync is available at any speed, although non-dedicated flashes may have trouble at the top speeds. My Sunpak 383 Super tops out at 1/6,000. The versatility of the 10x image stabilized zoom is outstanding. The bottom line is, the E-100RS has a great set of features, and remarkably good image quality. It's not all about the megapixels!

Strengths:

10x image stabilized zoom, precapture, high frame rate, controls.

Weaknesses:

1.4 megapixels

Similar Products Used:

Canon G2, Olympus D-460Z, Sony DSC-F707

Review 5 of 9

Price Paid:  $500.00 from Outpost.com

Summary:

Down from the original price of $1,500, this camera is a well worth the $500 it now brings. It is supurb for capturing certain types of sports action and just so-so for others, but in all cases must be outdoors daylight sports. When you can predict the location and approximate time, like a pitcher pitching, a batter batting, a diver diving, or just about any track or field event, the camera shines. Either the preexposure feature or the 15 fps continuous mode will get your shot. For less predictable situations like soccer, baseball infield plays, or any other snap shooting you will be frustrated with the delay caused by the autofocus. The 1.5 mpixels is more than adequate for newsprinting or enlargements up to 5x7. The image stabilization is also very handy for shooting near the maximum 380mm focal length. The 4 NimH batteries will give out long before most sporting events are over so have at least one spare set or, as I have done, invest in a lead-acid gelcell connected via an external cord. You can shoot, zoom, focus, review and edit without concern for battery life.

Strengths:

High frame rate (15 fps) Precapture mode External flash capability Extensive manual contols Auto bracketing Image stabilization 35-380mm zoom range Electonic viewfinder allows review of images in bright light Nice feel and look 2 memory cards 1/10,000 sec shutter speed Excellent adjustable fill flash Great Olympus optics

Weaknesses:

None at this price
