Review 1 of 3

Price Paid:  $170.00 from B&H Photo

Summary:

I was looking for an all-round lens which wouldn't break the budget. I couldn't have chosen a better lens. Well, I could have, but I didn't :-)

Its a strong all round performer, light weight, good construction. Most of my photography is outdoors, from urban to landscape, so the versatility it offers is great. I use this on my K100D Super.

Strengths:

*Solid
*Lightweight
*Sharp

Weaknesses:

I can't say I have found any weaknesses. It might not be as fast as some people would like.

Customer Service:

Have not had any problems with this lens. Pentax have done a good job as usual.

Review 2 of 3

Price Paid:  $350.00 from B&H

Summary:

Good lens for the money. You can probably get one at KEH.com or on Ebay for $150-200. Power zoom a cool feature especially if you own a PZ1-p.

Strengths:

Very handy focal length range and tack sharp for a zoom. Contrast and colors also good.

Weaknesses:

Watch for vignetting at 28mm with a circular polarizer or lens hood.

Customer Service:

Have requested literature which was cheerfully and promptly sent. Have never needed any repairs in 17 years.

Review 3 of 3

Model Reviewed:
SMCP-FA 28mm-105mm f/4.0-5.6

Summary:

Nice lens with a good built and picture quality, but rotating front element is not up-to-date. F4.0 could be at least F3.5.

Strengths:

Sharp lens with good micro-contrast, "bells and whistles", like power zoom, included. Good price (I payed $330 for new). Almost macro lens - 1:3 at 105mm.

Weaknesses:

Rotating front element. Inconvenient to focus manually.

Similar Products Used:

I own Pentax F 50/1.7, Exakta 3.8-4.5/35-70 and Russian prime lenses

Customer Service:

Never tried yet.
