A good lens. The lightweight construction belies its optical qualities.
I have compared slides taken using my 135mm f3.5 and 200mm f4 Pentax lenses to those taken with this lens
and the results seem identical for both what concerns resolution and contrast.
It is very difficult to tell which result is better.
It is very light and makes a great travelling lens.
Autofocus has a positive response even in low light conditions.
I have coupled this lens with a Kenko x1.5.
Here AF works up to 135mm (200mm) but AF is a lot slower.
Optical results obtained with the x1.5 at the 200mm end (300mm) are similar, if not better, to those
obtained with a 70-300 lens.
Focusing ring is thin. Manual focusing is possible (if you have thin fingers) though the ring does not turn smoothly.
If you are on a low budget and want good optical performance at all focal lengths then this is a great choice. Strengths:
Sharp wide open.
Very good optical performance at all focal lengths.
Lens barrel does not extend when changing focal length.
Compact and lightweight.
Quick AF response. Weaknesses:
No lens hood supplied.
FA version available in silver finish. only - does not match well with all black MZ10 body.
Thin focusing ring.
Focusing distance window left out on FA version - makes it look cheaper.
Front lens rotates making it difficult to use a polarizing filter. Similar Products Used:
