Price Paid:  $80.00 from Online

Summary:

I bought this camera for $180 with a $100 rebate so I got a pretty good deal for it at the time. The image quality is about as good as you can expect for a 850k CCD. It outputs 1024x768 images that are pretty sharp for the right lighting conditions and distance from the camera. The LCD eats up the battery pretty fast which makes it practically unusable while you are taking the pictures. If you don't use the LCD, you can make the battery last quite a while though. The viewfinder is slightly larger than the area that the camera actually captures, so you have to check that you are getting the picture that you want sometimes or you might end up chopping off some heads or something. The macro and TV-out functions are kind of nice. The serial transfer is slow. I bought a 32 meg card and can store over 200 pictures on it. The flash makes it a bit difficult to put in your pocket and you need the flash for indoor shots. Also, mine crashes sometimes and doesn't respond and won't turn off(which is very odd for a camera), but if you just pop the battery out, it works fine again. Also, the camera doesn't come with a lens cap and the lens is recessed so it is difficult to clean. You also can't attach any other lenses or anything to it. Color reproduction is good. Long story short, its a good camera for snapshots but not for once-in-a-lifetime pictures.

Strengths:

Good price, decent quality pictures, good beginner snapshot digital.

Weaknesses:

Slow serial transfer, LCD eats up battery fast, viewfinder is poorly designed, no lens cap.

Customer Service:

Didn't use it, camera almost works as expected.

Review 2 of 3

Summary:

Actually this is a pretty nice little camera although its only 850k CCD...thats pretty close to 1 megapixel and it outputs pretty good images in 1028x768 resolution. It may look like a toy but its actually a very capable beginners camera. The images come out pretty well with good lighting. There does seem to be a slight blueish gray tint to the pictures when using the flash indoors in pictures but thats easily fixed with a slight touchup in photoshop. The macro mode yields very impressive closeups. The camera produces its best images from a medium to close distance... anything beyond that is slightly blurry. The LCD screen is very nice and the features are extremly easy to use. It can take up to a 32mb smartmedia card which should be more than enough for the casual user. One thing i recommend getting is a usb card reader as the serial port connection can take some time if your transferring many pictures. It comes with a rechargable lithium ion battery and a cheap camera case. Another cool feature is it has rca out so you can view pictures on your tv. Basically...you get what you pay for. Dont purchase this camera thinking you will develop high quality large prints with it. Its a perfect low end camera for perhaps small prints. Its great for the web and other projects. I'd definitly recommend it if you can get a hold of it under $200. Although this is my first digital camera, my brother has an expensive HP digital cam so i do have something to compare it to.

Strengths:

Low price Decent image quality for price nice LCD screen/viewfinder Great macro mode Nice extras such as rechargable li-ion battery.

Weaknesses:

If you use the LCD screen alot it will eat up the batteries very fast. Can only take a 32mb smartmedia card(may be an issue to some but not me). Also the serial port connection is rather slow.
