Price Paid:  $589.00 from B&H Photo

Summary:

Zoom Telephoto 135-400mm f/4.5-5.6 APO DG Aspherical Autofocus Lens for Olympus Digital Cameras (Four Thirds System). A great lens for the money. I know that to be a purist, a fixed 400mm would be better to use than a zoom. However, as a traveler and backpacker - this lens proves to be the best choice. Sharp throughout the the full zoom span, not so heavy it can't be handheld at ISO 200-320. I do look for a brace point when using whenever possible. A mono-pod is recommended for long shooting sessions. Coupled with the Olympus LIVE VIEW, and Image Stabilization, this lens has become a favorite.

Strengths:

Heavy duty construction, super fast auto focus with the Olympus E3. Lens comes in a nice travel case, with lens caps and shade. Sharp and dependable throughout the zoom range from 135 to 400mm. Critical focusing is easily achieved through MF feature and eyepiece. Sharp focus able to make craters on the Moon seem so very close. Bottom line is I really like this lens.

Weaknesses:

Not so much a weakness - but an element to consider, if you are weak in forearm strength, you might find this lens too heavy for backpacking or travel shooting. I am not bothered by this factor and have become very creative in finding platforms to gain a firm, steady shot of my subjects.

Customer Service:

If this SIGMA behaves as my other SIGMA lens. I seriously doubt service will ever be necessary. I suspect only a lack of personal care could ever bring harm to this lens. I fully intend to have it in my lens arsenal for a long time to come. A note regarding B&H Photo. These folks are excellent and can be trusted when making purchases with them over the internet. Very prompt order fills (within 12 hours of receipt to shipping) for all in-stock items. I give them a HIGH recommendation.
