Review 1 of 6

Price Paid:  $550.00 from Mike's Camera

Summary:

Don't waste your money buying this camera. The Sony disk system is prone to the loss of pictures due to disk errors. Other Sony cameras allow the use of a memory stick which is a much better system than just a CD disk.

Strengths:

None

Weaknesses:

Cannot use a memory stick. You must use a CD disk that is prone to disk errors and loss of pictures

Similar Products Used:

Sony Mavica FD92

Customer Service:

You must send the camera back to the manufacturer which can take months. Cannot be fixed by a local camera shop.

Review 3 of 6

Price Paid:  $500.00 from Walmart

Summary:

Very nice picture quality. Nice option of viewing and zooming in on pix. Pix can be cropped easily also. Battery life is long and rechargable, no more buying tons of batteries anymore.

Strengths:

You can take lots of pix at high quality and not worry about changing media cards or batteries!

Weaknesses:

Movies are choppy. Any suggestions on how to make them smoother???

Similar Products Used:

Sony Mavica FD73

Customer Service:

Never needed for either camera. Sony's web site sucks. No information for questions one might have about product function.

Review 4 of 6

Price Paid:  $265.00 from Best Buy

Summary:

This is a great camera, especially for the person that just wants to snap photos like I do. When I want to do something serious I still use my Canon EOS 650, but when Im experimenting, I go all out with this camera. The cd storage media is a great improvement over conventional memory sticks, and a whole lot less pricey. My friend has the Sony F707, that has the memory stick, and hes got 128mb stick and constantly running out of memory while I just insert another CDRW and away I go for about $0.60 per cd. I think the camera works best mounted on an optional tripod like I do most of my photos with, you have to be really steady handed without one.

Strengths:

CD Media instead of conventional memory sticks. Each CDR holds aproximately 150 high res photos, or up to 648 vga photos (640x480)which are great for auction photos or even just photos you want to view on your computer without printing. Light weight. Many accessories available.

Weaknesses:

No LCD viewfinder with the camera, you have to use the lcd back panel display, but you can purchase a LCD viewfinder accessory that gives you a conventional viewfinder that snaps onto the back of hte camera, which is what I did.

Sony F707

Review 5 of 6

Price Paid:  $399.00 from BridgeViewPhoto

Summary:

Light in weight compared to my Nikon N60 SLR. Bulky, but less so than a regular SLR. Takes great pictures. Formatting a CD inside the camera is very fast. Battery life is about 2 days of active use. There is a 2 second lag in between pictures due to writing to CDs.

Strengths:

Nice pictures. Each CD (both CDR and CDRW) allows you to take about 150 high res pictures. It is also very handy for taking movies. Other digital camera can take movies too. However, they are usually limited to 10 seconds or so. This camera allows you to take movies in its high res mode (320x160) for 5 minutes. By virtue of using CDs, you don't have to worry about running out memory like a regular digital camera.

Weaknesses:

Because of disk access, the camera has to be handled very carefully while it is writing info to the CD. It is not a carefree camera that you can bang around. It is a delicate instrument and it should be treated as such.

Similar Products Used:

Nikon F, Nikon F60, Pentax Spotmatic, Pentax superprogram, numerous other dummy film camera.

Customer Service:

Cannot rate, no experience.
