    Review 1 of 5

Price Paid:  $150.00 from dixons - uk

    Summary:
As long as you buy this camera with realistic expectations, you'll have a result. Being a screenbased designer, who works with a maximum resolution of 1024x768 pixels, this camera is perfect (max res on U-10 is 1280x960). I haven't used it for prints yet and never really intended to. 8mb memory stick is about the right size for this camera as, by the time i've shot 22 or so pics, the batteries need re-charging. Asthetically, it's a really well designed, stylish product that i have to give a big 10/10. It also has an impressive amount of useful functions for a product so small.

    Strengths:
size. portability. style. simple functionality. image quality (for screenbased + limited print results)

    Weaknesses:
batteries take 13 HOURS to charge, hmmmmm! lens cover needs a lock mechanism. personally, i'd prefer a wrist strap to a neck strap.

Price Paid:  $169.00 from Circuit City

    Summary:
I've had this unit a short time but taken many pics so far using its original 8 MB stick (23-30 pics). Portability! Now I always have a camera with me. Pic quality is good, I think, for its intended use - web, email and some 3 x 5 prints (some can be stretched to 5 x 7). I've shot in daylight, heavy overcast, twilight, and macro mode strong incandescent conditions and the color balance has always been reasonable to good! It's noisy in very low light conditions but - better than having nothing. Flash is weakish and no good for macro, but, not unexpected, considering. I've compared the pics from this camera to a 1.3 Fuji I had 3 years earlier - the daylight pics compare well.

    Strengths:
size, ease of use, color accuracy

    Weaknesses:
    shutter lag

    Review 3 of 5

Price Paid:  $159.00 from Circuit City

    Summary:
This was my first digi-cam purchase. I would like to just say, I love my Sony Cyber-shot U10. It is so small and easy to use. Takes really good pictures for 1 megapixal, also i don't do any printing, all my pics go on websites and in emails. Everytime i pull it out of my pocket to snap a picture someone compliments on how small and neat it is.

    Strengths:
Size, battery life(recommend not using regular batteries, they last about ten min), picture quality, price, just point and click, memory stick (if you have a sony computer).

    Weaknesses:
Charging time If your wearing tight pants the shutter tends to slide open when you put it in your pocket. I'm not going to complain about it not having a zoom because i knew it didn't when i bought it.

    Review 4 of 5

Price Paid:  $199.00 from Circuit City

    Summary:
When you hear people rave about the small size of the U10, they are not crazy or being overly dramatic. This camera really is just barely larger than a large pack of gum. The 3/4" LCD (across) is remarkably clear (though the color is a bit faded) and easy to see in most all environments; since at this size, you have no optical viewfinder, you do by the way have to rely on the LCD at all times. The camera's small flash actually does well at lighting up subjects from up to about 6-7 feet away, and does a good job not washing things out, too. The auto focus works well, even in very low light - something rare in cameras costing much more. The 2 AAA NiMh batteries that power the U10 last a decent amount of time per charge, but you should expect to pay for a better charger - it's nice of Sony to include 2 batteries and a charger, but the charger takes 13 HOURS to do a charge. BOO! Image quality? Well, at this price and size, it's perfectly ok. It doesn't compare to some other cameras I've used, but then, it's better than others, too. Perfectly fine for good online or email images, but not quite good enough for "excellent" prints. Up to 3x5 inches is ok, but once you hit 4x6, the imperfections start to show. Still, this is NOT meant to be a person's primary camera. It's a great little "Second Camera" to have to carry around in your pocket (literally) on those times you don't want to lug something else around. Worth the $199 really - there is a U20 coming out with a 2 megapixel resolution at $269, but I'm not sure I'd pay that much for a pocket cam. Your call though.

    Strengths:
Size. Features for something like this - auto focus, macro, manual focus settings, good low light focusing, decent battery life, and more. Very good LCD considering the size. Decent photo quality for online or email pics.

    Weaknesses:
An optical zoom shouldn't be expected for a camera this size, but a digital zoom could have been thrown in just for the heck of it. A neck strap is included, but no wrist strap, which would have been better (to me). Included battery charger is too slowwwwww.

    Similar Products Used:
Various Sony cams, Olympus, Canon, and misc brands.

    Customer Service:
Sony serice is about like most these days.. you get an ex burger flipper the first time around, but their second level support is better.

    Review 5 of 5

Price Paid:  $190.00 from Hong Kong

    Summary:
I needed a camera that I would always carry with me in my business trips. Now I am using it far more than my $5000+ 35mm SLR system and definetely more than my other digital cameras. Maybe I am just getting tired of carrying heavy and expensive photographic system... Anyway, I have bought a U10 almost 2 months ago when it was launched in Hong Kong, and I had to give it away to my uncle as a present. I bought a new U10 after that, without hesitation. Buy U10 if you need a camera that you would want to carry with you all the time and would use it only to share pictures over the internet. But do not buy this camera if you would want to take high-resolution images that you would use for professional purposes or that you would want to make big prints. Also do not buy this camera if you take most of your pictures in poorly lit indoors or take too many macro shots.

    Strengths:
1- Batery: The camera uses AAA batteries that you can buy anywhere, plus the rechargeable battery set that comes in the package lasts a really long time if you do not use flash too often. 2- Memory Stick: I just take out the memosry stick, insert it into my VAIO, that I connect to my SonyEricsson T68i via Bluetooth and I e-mail pictures from whereever I am, without using one single cable. 3- Build Quality: It is a Sony. It definetely takes beating. 4- Size & Weight: When I leave home, I just put this camera in my pants pocket and forget that it is there. 5- Surprisingly good pictures in good lighting conditions. 6- Very easy to take pictures, just slide the cover, hit the shutter release.

    Weaknesses:
1- Speed: The camera has a longish shutter lag and it has a very slow start-up when used with a large capacity memory stick. 2- Movie mode: recorded movie is very small, and this mode is useless. 3- No zoom. 4- The pictures taken in low light sitations are really grainy, no no, they simpy suck. 5- Flash: Flash is really too weak for regular use and too strong for macro shots.

    Similar Products Used:
Sony DSC-S85, Olympus Z-2002, Canon Digital Ixus V2, and all kind of 35mm stuff.

    Customer Service:
Did not use, did not need, and don't think I will ever need.
