Review 1 of 55

Price Paid:  $799.00 from Staples

Summary:

I bought this camera when it first came out, and I love it as much today as I did when I bought. I use it for online auctions. My pictures are very clear and detailed. This camera more than paid for itself in less than a month. I have sold at least 20 of these cameras due directly to my testimonials. I LOVE my Sony!!!!

Strengths:

Easy to use with floppy disk, no expensive memory cards or the need to plug in to computer and download pictures. The rechargable lithium battery saves so you money. No need to buy batteries everytime you use it like most digital cameras. Perfect for internet use.

Weaknesses:

Flash is very bright. Print quality not great.

Customer Service:

Never needed it, I haven''t a problem in over 4 years.

Review 4 of 55

Summary:

Good digital camera for the beginner. Personally, I chose this camera for the convenience of the floppy disc storage. The image quality is adequate for web-based usage but not for printing. You will quickly out grow this camera especially when comparing to the newly released cameras.

Strengths:

Floppy disc storage. Ease of use. Lithium ion battery.

Weaknesses:

Image quality. Flash causes "washed out" images.

None

Review 5 of 55

Summary:

I've used my Sony Mavica FD7 for over two years now. At present, I'm a Crime Scene Technician and use the Mavica nearly every day for crime scene and accident documentation. I use other cameras too...Sony Handycam camcorders and Pentax K-1000 35mm cameras, but the Mavica fills a much-needed niche in my 'arsenal' of tools. The Mavica's onboard flash has to be seen to be believed...orbiting space shuttles can probably see the horrendous flash at night...I 'tame' mine with a couple of thicknesses of white copy paper taped over it. The InfoLithium power pack for the Mavica is wonderful...I can often go over a week between recharges, and the capacity to instantly transfer images from camera to p.c. is outstanding...the floppy disk media might be slow and a bit cumbersome, but it is practical and foolproof...and very cheap. For best image quality, use the "Fine" setting...the "normal" setting is okay for web images, but not much else. Outside, in bright daylight, you will have trouble seeing the images on the LCD display, but there are several inexpensive aftermarket gadgets that solve the problem neatly...or, of course, you can work out a field-expedient for yourself. All in all, it's big, bulky, slow, and its 640X480 resolution is a handicap. But it's also reliable and tough and it hasn't failed me yet. Excellent camera!

Strengths:

Sturdy, reliable, wonderful power management, reliable and cheap storage media, superb MACRO performance.

Weaknesses:

Large, bulky, slow, retina-incinerating onboard flash, LCD display nearly unusable in daylight without add-on gadgets, low resolution (640x480).

Similar Products Used:

Several other digicams, camcorders, and numerous (over 60) subminiature, 35mm and medium-format conventional cameras.

Customer Service:

Have never used it.
