Review 2 of 42

Price Paid:  $500.00

Summary:

Decent camera with lousy Sony customer service!!!

Weaknesses:

I have a sony floppy disk adapter which I use with a memory stick. I had no problems for six months. Then all of a sudden I started getting a format error c:13 :01 when I insert the disk. I called the sony support line and they had no clue about anything. I was told that I must have replaced the batteries (which I did not) so the disk needed to be reformatted. They also told me I would lose everything on my memory stick during this process. I was told to buy a new memory stick so this would not happen. Well I purchased an additional somewhat expensive memory stick and their solution did not work. I tried a few things on my own on a hunch and one of them worked. I replaced the two small batteries in the memory stick adapter which I have been using after I noticed that I got the error message whether the batteries were in it or not. Well this simple $4 fix worked! I did have to reformat the disk after though. Of course the support people at Sony had no idea and never suggested this. Instead they sent me in the wrong direction. I hope this helps someone out there because Sony doesn't have a clue! Good luck!!!! 7-7-03

Customer Service:

I was on the phone for an hour before I finally got an answer. The girl on the phone didn't have a clue about the camera or software. I am shocked that these products are still selling so well. Obviously Sony does not care about their image and intends on relying on a good marketing and advertising strategy to continue selling.

Review 4 of 42

Summary:

I just recieved this camera as a gift less than a month ago. I like it, and it was working fine up until a couple days ago when I started getting a DISK ERROR C:13:01 message when ever I insert a disk. Even if I try to format the disk I get the same message. I have no manual and I have had no luck with sony returning my emails. If anyone has any information on this type of error message, please email me.. If all else fails I guess I'll have to take it in for service.

Strengths:

ease of use, portability

Weaknesses:

disk error

Review 5 of 42

Summary:

We started using three different digital cameras one year ago. Out of the three, the Sony Mavica 81 is the winner. The Sony has been used by our group as the most dependable and 'user friendly'hands down. We use it to photograph customer construction sites, photos ranging from close-up concrete workmanship to wide angle full buildings. The ease of transfering information because of the 3.5 diskette has been removed, the pictures can be used for presentations immediately.

Strengths:

Easy of use 3.5 format

Weaknesses:

Battery life

Similar Products Used:

Canon Powershot

Customer Service:

none required at this time.
