Review 1 of 5

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
The P200 is a competent little camera. My wife bought this camera to have something more portable than our Sony F717 and old Canon AE-1 film SLR. Long story short, both of us were very impressed with the image quality of the camera, particularly for its size and class. I found that images taken with the P200 were sharper and cleaner than those taken with my friend's comparable Canon Elph digital compact camera. There is a limited number of manual controls available - aperture and shutter priorities, which my friend's Canon compact digital camera lacked. When the images are properly exposed, there is low noise at lower ISO. At higher ISO the noise increases substantially, but no more so than other compact digital cameras. The images taken were nice enough that my mother asked to have the camera. My wife ended up replacing her P200 with the Sony T2 (which honestly does not come close in terms of image quality).

Strengths:
Great image quality from a compact digital camera.
Sturdy design.

Weaknesses:
Less pocketable than newer ultracompact designs
Smallish LCD by today's standards

Similar Products Used:
Sony T2

Review 2 of 5

Price Paid:  $400.00 from Best Buy

Summary:
I dig this little camera. At first I had to get used to it. My other camera is a DSC-F828 so I had to get un-used to what I was used to in a camera. I actually bought this for my wife as an anniversary gift, but I'm using it more than she is now! You have to understand that it's a small camera, with no lens hood, and limited user controls, but once you know when and how to use this camera it can take some pretty good pictures. I'm especially impressed with its close up flash performance. The 828's built in flash tended to blow out close up subject. The flash exposure couldn't tone it down enough. The P200 flash range is real short, but up close it absolutely rocks.

Strengths:
Compact, lightweight, easy to use. Great close up performance. Very long battery life. Very fast shot to shot fora P&S. Very easy to use intuitive menus.

Weaknesses:
Short flash range. Limited manual controls, but what controls are there are easy to use through intuitive menus. Long focus distances like for landscapes and such can look soft or slightly out of focus.

Haven't had to use it.

Review 3 of 5

Price Paid:  $80.00 from Jessops [the insuran

Summary:
This camera is a delight. When it works it is ideal for my purposes - apart from the limited zoom range that all compacts suffer from and unimpressive lens quality where close-ups are concerned. It's small enough to fit in a shirt pocket, fast, accurate for exposure and focus and colour. But the barrel distortion if I photograph a book I'm trying to sell or a painting of my wife's is disturbing.

Strengths:
See above.

Weaknesses:
Reliability. I got this camera because my 18-month old one was considered beyond economic repair by my insurers. The lens was not retracting without physical assistance when the camera was turned off. My 3-month old replacement looks like it will very soon be doing the same - and I do not mistreat my cameras.

Review 4 of 5

Price Paid:  $400.00 from BestBuy

Summary:
I love this camera! I researched all cameras for 4 weeks before buying. I was unbiased with brands. When I saw the features on this camera, I was sold. It's extremely fast for a point and shoot camera. Very small too. My photography is almost all action shots, and this camera does really good for being so compact. I actually held it in my hand inside my snowboard mitt taking a few runs last year! The autofocus can be a little slow. Manual controls are pretty good. I bought a wide angle adapter, but don't use it much because it's bulky. I do a lot of backcountry mountain biking and snowboarding, so minimalist construction is important. The 7.2 megapixel resolution is awesome! I can crop my images down and still have very high resolution shots. I think this is my favorite feature on this camera. The camera has very good color. You can check my pics out at http://www.spudhucksters.com All the photos on the website are taken with this camera I bought it at Best Buy and got the 4-year warranty, so as long as I don't lose it, I can get a new one if anything happens to it (which it will with the abuse I inflict on it)

Strengths:
7.2 Megapixel light and small fast easy to use

Weaknesses:
autofocus a little slow

all my buddies have Elphs, but mine is better!

Review 5 of 5

Price Paid:  $329.00 from Onecall.com

Summary:
This compact 7.2 megapixel camera was my early Christmas present this year. It takes clear, true-color photos and is quite forgiving of unsteady hands. It opens and closes quickly and shutter speed is great for a camera with this many megapixels. It's also small enough to fit in a jacket pocket, making it much easier to use on hikes or tight spots like squeezing through to the top of a lighthouse. There are several easy-to-use settings for nighttime, macro and other specialty shots and the zoom is more than sufficient for amateur use.

Strengths:
Small enough to be used with one hand; LCD screen is adequate size; quick to open and close; uses Memory Stick; comes in 3 colors (I chose ruby red).

Weaknesses:
Unlike other cameras I've had, the photo you take doesn't appear on the LCD screen for a few seconds after being taken. Pictures taken on some of the specialty settings, like nighttime, require use of a tripod because it's impossible to hold such a small camera perfectly steady for several seconds. It has a rechargeable battery, which means having an expensive spare battery or else never forgetting to check the battery status before starting a photography project.

Similar Products Used:
This is my fifth digital camera in as many years. My most recent camera, now my back-up, is an Olympus Camedia C-4000 Zoom (4.0 megapixels).

Customer Service:
I've had the Sony Cybershot only a few months -- no problems have surfaced as yet.
