Review 1 of 9

Price Paid:  $0.00 from Dixons

Summary:

I picked the PC9 up as a supplement to my existing cameras. I was astounded at the quality of picture reproduction and although the effects are basic there are more than enough for the average user. I decided on the PC9 after trying several other makes and predominantly looking for a unit with good sound quality for live music events. To this end the PC9 is perfect and produces remarkably wide stereo separation and doesn't distort at high volumes Well done Sony(again) for a unit with good sound quality for live music events. To this end the PC9 is perfect and produces remarkabley wide stereo seperation and doesnt distought at high volumes Well done Sony(again

Strengths:

Sound quality(For such a small camera) Overall picture quality(braodcast quality) Size

Weaknesses:

effects are basic covers for charging and tv connection are just waiting to snap off!

Similar Products Used:

Sony PC5, Sony PC8, Hi8, Some Panasonic thing I can't remember.

Review 2 of 9

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

It's a great compact MiniDV camcorder. I love it. Nightshot works great.

Strengths:

Compact.

Weaknesses:

Poor Microphone placement. Poor Low Light Performance. Plastic flap covers are flimsy and will eventually break off, trying to be careful to avoid the inevitable when charging and dubbing.

Customer Service:

Look here for the Sony DCR-PC9 Manual in PDF format. http://www.henrys.com/manuals/sony/DCR-PC9(en).pdf

Review 3 of 9

Price Paid:  $1050.00 from Best Buy - Online

Summary:

The Sony DCR-PC9 is a great little camcorder. It has more features on it than you will probably ever use. I really bought it for it's size and it's easiness to travel with. I bought a new camera small camera bag with it and I can fit the whole camcorder, 2 batteries, all the necessary cables (i.e. usb cord, monster cable etc.) the AC power adaptor, battery charger plus about 5-6 tapes too. I had a HI8 before this Sony and it was a pain to travel with. The one thing you do have to get used to with the DCR-PC9 is the microphone. It is located on the top of the camera so sometimes your fingers can cover it while your filming. It's not a big deal but it is something you have to get used to. The picture quality is superb! Do not buy this camera for still pictures to print. It's fine for e-mail but don't buy it with the intentions of printing pictures. You'll be disappointed. Buy a digital camera for that. Overall, you will not find a better camera for it's size and quality. You can spend less, but you will get less. Thumbs up to Sony for a great, compact, user friendly and fun camcorder.

Strengths:

Size, features, ease of use, picture quality, build quality.

Weaknesses:

Not a cheap camcorder but still worth it! Battery. Buy the extended hours battery. memory stick to small. Buy the 120meg

Review 4 of 9

Price Paid:  $1273.00 from Aalsmeer, The Nether

Summary:

It's difficult to put down just how good this little camera is. Simple to use, lightweight, superb crisp images and a number of onboard gimmicky features to play with if you don't have a PC to edit it or you just enjoy that sort of stuff. Initially I started using all the features and bundled software to create nice graphic titles and images and uploading them to the memory stick for fades etc but it all gets a little tiring! I now primarily shoot stock footage and then edit it later on my PC and, with DVD burners tumbling in price, I expect that that is where I will go next. At the end of the day, the reason I bought this was to record the baby years of my children so the image quality and the ability to take the camera anyway as a carry-able accessory was the main factor. I would strongly recommend this camera due to its video quality and simplicity. Why haven't I given it a five star rating? Nothing is perfect, but this is darn close for me!

Strengths:

Numerous but the main ones for me were size and video image quality, even in low light. My friends and family are always astounded at the quality when they see the recordings. There are lots of gimmicks on the camera but would advise against using any of them if you are planning to edit on a PC - just shoot and worry about making the *magic* later. Connectivity is simple with the USB connection for the stills and MPEG's.

Weaknesses:

It hurts me to say that there are a few: 1) The MPEG encoding onto the memory stick is limited to a maximum of 15 seconds (60 seconds on the smaller picture mode) no matter what size memory card you have. 2) The manual isn't available in PDF format and Sony charge €8 if you require a replacement. I wanted to put it on my PDA in PDF format but simply can't do this. Come on Sony, what is the benefit of holding onto these manuals? 3) The audio pickup of anything more than 3 metres away is poor. Don't expect clear and concise commentary unless you use a plug in mike. 4) The still images are limited to 640x480 but this isn't a digital camera! If you want superb still images, buy a quality digital still camera. 5) A tad expensive but, when you see the picture quality, you will know where your extra €'s went.

Similar Products Used:

None, but looked at a lot of others before I buyed.

Customer Service:

Never had to use it to actually repair the camera but my request for an electronic version of the manuals was answered by directing me to a website where I couple buy a replacement manual! When I repl

Review 5 of 9

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

Bought to capture the new addition to our house hold, this camera is amazing! I had looked a while back, but was not impressed by cameras & price, but this one changed my mind. The picture quality is superb for such a small camera, as good as live TV. The touch screen makes it easy to pick up and start using while the additional features will no doubt become more useful later on.

Strengths:

size, ease of use.

Weaknesses:

They probably already made it obsolete!
