Price Paid:  $1000.00

Summary:

I've worked with a dozen or so different scanners over the years. I find this scanner does a lousy job. The color is okay, but I give it a D- rating for sharpness -- reflective and transparency media.

Review 2 of 3

Price Paid:  $0.00 from PC Conection

Summary:

The 1100 works great for reflective material, but just doesn't measure up when scanning 35mm slide or negative film. You'll get your best scans if you have a lab print a small 4x6 print from your film, then scan the print, but that defeats the purpose of the slide adaptor doesn't it. If you want high-quality prints larger than 4x6, spend your money on a dedicated film scanner. It actually does a decent job scanning 6x6 or 6x7 medium format transparencies, and a good job scanning 4x5. The included scanning software, Magicscan 4.5, is weak.

Strengths:

Excellent scanning results for reflective materials. Good results with large format film scanning.

Weaknesses:

35mm film scanning, negative scanning at all formats, and the bundled software.

Similar Products Used:

Many others.

Review 3 of 3

Price Paid:  $1100.00 from UMAX.COM

Summary:

I have owned the 1100 for 4 days now... and despite the advertised ease of installment and use; the unit has yet to even be recognized by my Mac. After dealing with technical support and realizing thier problem to staff ratio is so high... I couldn't imagine owning ANY of their products. When I asked for an exchange... they explained that would take 30 days... When I asked for a refund... I was told they have never issued one... but "more power to you." I find it hard to believe that this company does any business at all. I studied my scanner purchase for over two months and narrowed my decision down to two of their high end units... however, after this experience I have decided to sacrifice some speed and "quality" for better warranty/support.

Strengths:

Pretty plastic molding.

Weaknesses:

Terrible tech support. Not exactly a hassle free installation for a Firewire Scanner.

Similar Products Used:

Any epson flatbed with Transparancy Adapter.

Customer Service:

Absolutely the worst technical support I have ever encountered. The technician even spent time arguing with me that the scanner was SCSI and was not even available in Firewire format. When in reality, that is the only format in which it exists.
