from Roberts Summary: Was looking for a lens to shoot my kid's soccer/baseball/football games plus airshows without spending a lot of money, and this lens is perfect for that. The f/6.7 max aperture at 400mm means high shutter speeds and 800-speed film, or 800 iso setting on digital for best results. This lens is for brightly-lit outdoors only. Strengths: Inexpensive, small and light for the zoom range. Sharpness is "just fine" for nice 4x6 prints for the family photo album and emails to the grandparents. Weaknesses: Sharpness decreases as focal length increases. Autofocus is very slow--unusable for sports, where it must be used in manual for any chance of in-focus photos. Autofocus works fine in bright light with contrasty subjects that aren't moving much. Very plastic-y and construction is unimpressive, but that's what you get for this price. (Note-autofocus does not work on D40 or D60.) Similar Products Used: 400 mm fixed-focus, sharper but less versatile for subjects that are constantly moving around, like kids on a soccer field. You need a zoom like this to shoot kids playing soccer. Customer Service: not used.
