Strength:

Very Well made and extremely versitile. This is ther perfect bag for me. I can fit on the bottom half my three lenses, camera and flash safely. I can get them out of the bag quickly. I can also carry my tripodon the back holder easily and safely. Since I had other Smith and Street accessories a am able to attach them to the side clips and I did not waste money. I merely added to the system. In the top I put my filters a book or fleece jacket. The side pockets and small corner zippered pockets hold film, maps water bottles etc.

Weakness:

I wish it had a waterproof built in cover like my other top load bag has.

The perfect bag for me. It is well balance and confortable to carry dispite what I put in it

Strength:

Versatlity & security

Weakness:

Hard to get into

Used this summer in tour of USA. Very useful for the type of non photo stuff that tourists lug around. Very comfortable in use and weightless even if fully laden once on back but can be difficult to get on & off. Ideally one needs to put it on from above floor level ie from a table

Strength:

Durable, easy to carry, by far the BEST camera bag I've owned.

Weakness:

wish it had more "pockets" for pens, batteries, etc.

After trying every manufacturer and type of camera bag, I finally found THE PERFECT BAG! It's easy for me to carry, even fully loaded with my Canon Elan IIe camera, two lens, flash and filters when hiking 5 miles or so. PLUS I can carry a lunch and/or windbreaker in the top portion. Can even carry my tripod.

Strength:

Very comfortable
Flexible design
Sturdy construction
Good quality materials

Weakness:

More pockets will be nice

I have used this backpack in several hiking trips and I love it. Very good distribution of weight to hip/legs saves my shoulders and spine! For its price there is no better backpack out there.

Strength:

very comfortable, can carry relatively a lot of equipment, reasonably priced.

Weakness:

i could use a better tripod attachment.

this is the best backpack i've found after a lot of reaserch, and the thing that i like most is it's paded back that lets you hold your equipment all day long with no extraordinary strain for any of your muscles, well, what can i tell you,if it fits your equipment then your back needs one.

Strength:

--Bottom compartment well suited for bringing the bare minimum of equipment.
--Top compartment is large enough to store many smaller items.
--Pretty light compared to other bags.
--Sturdy, overall well constructed bag.

Weakness:

--Small top compartment. A few more inches would make this bag a lot better.
--Few pockets.

This bag has many strengths. Almost everything is great, just sometimes more might be better...

This bag has a wonderful padding/strap system. A lot of times, when I'm not carrying a heavy load it's easy to forget that the pack isn't there. I like carrying the extra weight because then the bag doesn't bounce around as much. Padding is pretty good, in both the back and the straps and in my use, they are well ventilated. All of the straps can be adjusted. With the length of strap actually given, a even rather large person would be able to fit.

The camera compartment is nice, I've been able fit a SLR camera (w/ lens attached), two lenses, one large flash, and I still had a little room to place film or my CD player and headphones. The compartment is well padded, and should protect any equipment in there pretty well. The padding is removable, in the event that you just want to use this as a regular backpack. It's difficult to access this compartment without actually placing the bag down because the whole top of the back has to pivot. The bag comes with several padded pieces to be used as dividers in this section.

The tripod holder is convenient for those trips where a tripod is very neccessary. You could stick a lot of long, rigid items there too, for example a small poster tube is able to be carried using this feature.

The four external pockets (two mesh, two zippered) are fairly nice. The mesh pockets (on the sides of the bag) can hold some pretty large items, but the biggest I've ever really used was a large Perrier bottle. They are good to keep accessories nearby, and at an arms reach. The mesh pockets are semi-hard to reach without swinging the bag around on one strap. The zippered pockets are also good for keeping small accessories nearby, too. I'd imagine one could place a very small lens in there, but I've never actually done that. These pockets are also difficult to reach without swinging the bag around.

The upper interior compartment is good for carrying what it is advertised to carry: a jacket and lunch. However, I usually always use it to carry around small items I need (CD cases, maybe a small book etc). Don't expect to be able to place regular textbooks or 8.5 x 11 papers in there: not large enough for that. There is one see-through, mesh/vinyl pocket with a zipper that resides on the part of the backpack which is actually against your back. The pocket measures about 16cmx22cm. It's a good place to place identification, wallets, etc. The "floor" of this compartment serves as the top of the padded section can be removed (velcro) to accomadate larger equipment. The top portion of the bag is not padded, so I'd recommend against placing your big super-telephoto lenses there.

On the waist straps, there are many loops designed to take the Lowepro accessories for this bag (of which there are many useful ones, none of which I've used yet). These straps are great for other purposes as well: hanging an MP3 player from it, holding headphones, cliping a small accessory like a mini-tripod, or attaching pretty much any other item that has a connection loop of some sort.

Over-all the bag is very sturdy. The material and the zippers seem pretty strong. It doesn't seem like this bag is going to deteriorate anytime soon.

Anyone who is looking for a good backpack with a camera compartment should look into the Lowepro S&F Rover Light. It is certainly a great bag, but I wouldn't go as far to say that it is the "perfect" camera bag.

Customer Service

I haven't had to use the customer service of www.cameraworld.com nor Lowepro.

Strength:

- Comfortable.
- I like the compression straps.
- I like the mesh side pocket. (will hold water.)
- seems very durable

Weakness:

- I wish that I could zip off waist belt.
- I wish that I could remove the sternum strap.
- tripod holder cannot handle my Bogen 3021 pro.

It is a good piece of equipment for anyone who needs to carry some personal items as well as a basic SLR setup. Backpack can handle a body & two lenses, flash, w/ filters and film before needing to utilize the upper half of the backpack. Backpack is comfortable even when worn for an extended period of time.

Strength:

-Very comfortable - I'm not afraid to carry extra things for those "such in case" moments. The cushions on my back are great.
-Enough space for us pack rats -My bottom compartment holds N80 with lense attached, 2 lenses, flash and a little space for more. Then the top compartment holds the Olympus Epic, wallet, Palm V, make-up, snacks and journals. The sides hold AW cover (cheaper brand) and water bottle. the little zipper compartments hold keys, mobile phone and film. AND the sternum holds the monopod and/or umbrella.
-Great balance and hands free-I can carry a lot, buckle the waist straps, swirl it around to get things out then swirl it back out of the way to take shots.
-Velcro dividers in bottom compartment-most bags have these but you won't know who much you miss them until you buy a bag that doesn't have them.
-Durable Fabric
-Stay clean color - black

Weakness:

Straps everywhere. You don't want to cut them but what else can you do.
Bottom too soft-Don't put it down to hard. Your camera and lenses are down there. If you have the dropsies, just put something in the bottom to firm it up. The cushion is removable.

ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. You can walk around with both hands on your camera. You can carry all your stuff in one bag. You won't be lopsided from carrying a shoulder bag on one shoulder all day, every day.

Customer Service

No need. this one should last or just buy a new one.

Strength:

- Quality ripstop material.

- Extremely comfortable, well-balanced, very adjustable.

- Removable bottom compartment and middle divider to convert to a (very expensive) single compartment backpack.

- Holds enough stuff. Still, expandable with S&F components.

- Gear is still accessible with pack slung over one shoulder.

Weakness:

- No AW cover! The attached product tag incorrectly advertised that the Rover Light had an integrated AW rain cover.

- I wish the main compartment was 1" larger in all dimensions. It is BARELY big enough for a standard clipboard.

- The bag is deceivingly large in appearance (esp. on me), but once the bag is on, the bulk is unnoticed because of the great harness.

- Tripod holder is perfect except for one thing: bungee cord tie-down at top should be replaced with a confidence-inspiring webbing strap.

- Upper compartment not suited to organizing odds and ends, filters, batteries, etc.

Despite all of my gripes, this is another consistently well-built, quality Lowepro product. Its ergonomics are great, and accomplishes its intended purpose of a gear bag cum day pack. Yes, I wish the main compartment was slightly bigger so that it could also carry the occasional clipboard or binder. Yes, I wish it had an AW rain cover. But all told, the Rover Light's versatility and feel make it well worth the money.
