This back really shines when used in conjunction with a backpack. It's got two 1" nylon fastex straps that slip under the nylon loops on my backpack's shoulder straps. This means that when I've got the backpack on, I can hang the photorunner flat against my chest (this might not work for certain women). Therefore, all of the weight is borne by the shoulder straps -- which means on my hips, not my neck or shoulders. I keep my D70s resting in the photorunner, lens down (with a 70-300 lens in the small second compartment). I don't usually zip it closed because it has some vecro patchs that keep the wide lid closed. Of course, I keep the camera strap around my neck for safety, but it doesn't hang on my neck. Whenever its time to shoot, I've got it in front of my face in 1.5 seconds. Its faster than reaching in my pocket for a P&S. Admittedly, it takes about a minute to get the thing rigged up. So if you like to remove your backpack every 45 minutes it will drive you crazy. But it works for me.

Strength:

Good material, lots of straps.

Weakness:

Very small. Sags when wearing it. Dual zippers VERY difficult to open. Often jams. Uncomfortable after long wears.

Well, I bought this bag to take the weight off my shoulders and onto my hips. I hoped that it would allow me to take out my camera faster, and tuck it back in with ease. Actually, the zippers were a nightmare and it acutally took longer to open due to jamming. When the bag is loaded, it will sag on your hip/waist and tends to get uncomfortable. I do not feel safe with my equipment hanging in there. I returned it and bought a Domke F-3x. Note: I like Lowepro products in general, but this bag did not work for me at all. It did not hold as advertised and the zippers! The zippers! Too hard to open and close. I give it a 3 value rating because it is useful under ideal conditions: light load AND zippers work perfectly. And as always, Lowepro packs alot of features in a small package. However, realistically, this bag just slowed me down. If your a street shooter, this may not work for you.

Strength:

Just the right size for one body with small zoom and one long zoom. Tripod holder on bottom works great with small Gitzo G126. Easy open double-zipper top. Fits well once you know how to do it. Water resistent.

Weakness:

Not stable on ground, flops over easily and can spill contents. I wish it were just a tad, maybe 3 inches, wider.

This is the bag I use the most. It just fits an EOS-3 with 28-135 IS attached and the 75-300 IS on the side. The belt configuration looks like a normal backpack hip belt but doesn't work that way. To fit correctly, the waste (not hip) band has to be only semi-tight. The stabilizers are then tightened completely for the perfect fit.

The bag is water resistent and keeps the equipment dry during short trips in rain. Adding one of those small, high-riding boulder bags allows you to spend hours outside.

Solid build, good price.

Strength:

Multiple carrying methods. Can hold more gears than it looks like

Weakness:

Prone to filp over when full loaded.

Surprisingly, it can hold 2 bodies (FE2) , 2 lenses (Tokina 20-35, Nikon 75-150E) and 1 flash (Sunpak 433), plus some small accs in the front pocket. The multiple carrying methods is very handy.

Strength:

padded, adjustable

Weakness:

outside not conforming

Padded protection for your 1 to 3 lens SLR kit. This bag is fairly compact and has adjustable slots for your equiptment and accessories. It is actually a quick zip open, grab camera, take shot, and replace back into camera bag. Works pretty well for mobile outdoor activities. One bit, though, that it has too many straps, dangling when not in use and it is not as sleek looking as I would like. It retains a somewhat boxy look even though I tried to shape it with its compression straps. Altogether, it protects your equiptment very well with options on how to holster it (hip and/or shoulder) and is compact (somewhat like a large fanny sack or very small camcorder bag). Prices have jumped a bit, check Cameraworld. Not perfect, but best balance. (Though, sometimes I just throw my SLR with lens into a lunchsize padded thermal lunch bag for convenience/packing-cheap and effective)

Strength:

Compact size and sturdy construction. One handed zipper pull handle for opening and closing. Abilty to carry it as a shoulder bag or as a waist pack.

Weakness:

Zipper can hang a little when closing it.

I'm using this for a miniDV format camcorder I have and have also tried with my SLR. Both are a great fit but it works better for the camcorder. It's ouside accessory pocket is very roomy and easily holds all my cables and a couple of blank tapes. Shop around on line for this. You should be able to find it cheaper than the MSRP listed here.

Strength:

Typical Lowepro quality, performs as intended.

Weakness:

A bit short if you like to carry an SLR with a 100-300 zoom attached and a 28-135 tucked away at the end of the bag. Reversing the lenses works ok, but there are times I would like to leave the 300 on the body. One more inch would make this bag nearly perfect.

The narrow shape of the bag requires that mounted lens lies along the long side and the extra lens standing vertically at the end of the mounted lens. Both together cannot measure more than 10 and a half inches or so before you begin to get a bit tight. Anything shorter than that and you have a great little bag. Despite it being a bit short for me, I stll use it most of the time.

Strength:

compact, convenient for hikers

Weakness:

not enough room for some gear

Overall a good bag for hikers. I've been backpacking for years, and have had a hard time finding a camera bag that would work with my pack. I know Lowe is a good company (my backpack is a Lowe Alpine), so I expected a lot from this bag. It's very durable, and the dual zippers make for easy access to everything. The only downfall is that you can't fit a great amount of gear into it, but it's enough for film, a lens or two, a body, lens cleaning kit, and some paper and a pen.

So far, this the best way to carry my SLR and two lenses for a range of 24-150 and then some. You have a shoulder sling and waist strap for freeing up your arms- very useful. The double zipper allows for very fast unloading/loading my camera to get a shot, then slipping it back in- very secure and quick for outdoor high speed activities that can't be interrupted by removing/undoing a backpack. I would have never brought my SLR to recent climbing, hiking trips if not for this bag- it allows me the freedom to waist-it or sling-it over my body keeping it out of the way. The quality and adjustablity of an SLR system is incredible over the highest quality P&S (ok, maybe not a Contax G2). To have my SLR ready in a few moments and the security the high density foam provides is the almost perfect combination. My resulting photographs are incredible and no doubt much credited to my Photo Runner as well as the camera itself. You can't use your equipment if can't bring it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Duh!
