I bought this vest based on some of these reviews and also availability here in Vancouver. I had a few moments of buyer's remorse but then I got used to having the thing on and being able to carry a lot of my gear. I don't tend to use it for carrying a huge amount of gear but it can if needed. I have successfully loaded it with an F90x and an FM2 body, a Nikon SB28 flash, a Nikkor 80-200 2.8 and a Tamron 90mm macro. My only complaints are the D rings on the sides. They are not terribly secure and they work themselves lose and I feel like they get in the way. I bought some velcro from a local fabric store and modified the sides to keep the tabs out of my way. Works great. No problems now.

Strength:

Very light and breathable, which is a big plus in summer. Lots of pockets (I do not think that I found them all). A camera can be hung on it to take some weight from the neck -- try EOS 1n with 100-400mm lens and you will understand.

Weakness:

Velcro sucks. Maybe it's convenient, but I would prefer metal fast-locks. A transparent pouch is designed for horizontal photo ID while they are vertical novadays. Side tighteners tend to slip off and then you walk ringing like a belled cow.

It's a nice vest with tons of easily accessible pockets that will surely complement your backpack. Definitely, it has more pluses than shortcomings.

Strength:

mesh material is cooler than non-mesh; cotton material is comfortable; elasticized side pockets help keep stuff inside the pocket; comfortable to wear; lots of pockets and plenty of places to store lenses, filters, film, etc., etc., etc.

Weakness:

snaps are inferior, I saw one vest in the store with a snap pulled out of the material - this is inexcusable as it is easily determinable with only a modest amount of field testing (as a result I am very careful when pulling the snaps apart. Other weakness is no shoulder strap. I like these to help hold extra cameras on my shoulder when walking around a field, etc. I recognized this weakness when buying it, but other advantages outweighed the disadvantages.

Bottom line is that I knew of each of the primary weaknesses when I bought the garment and I still bought it. The advantages (many pockets, secure pockets, and mesh fabric) outweighed the disadvantages. I still feel that way. If they can upgrade the quality and add the shoulder straps, it would be far and away the best.

Strength:

Light weight, they come in extra large size to fit over winter cloths easily, durrable, well thought out.

Weakness:

I have taped up the tears on the press pass holders and a small tear in corner of pocket...my fault not watching where I was going in a hurry.

I use the D-rings by the shoulders for a belt like fastener that keeps my cameras from falling. Those have saved me many times....too many times from buying new cameras and lenses. I have put a lot of weight on them too. They haven't torn yet. I run around a lot with pockets full of stuff and never had a fall out. At times I have trouble finding my car keys :)

Strength:

Nice color, comfortable, lots of pockets.

Weakness:

So many pockets you can actually lose stuff in the vest.

Okay, I feel like someone in a movie playing a photojournalist when I'm wearing this thing. That's really not something I want when strolling around town. However, I now understand why PJ's started using vests like these; you can carry a lot of gear and have fast access to it. No backpack or bag can match the convenience. The vest doesn't catch stares when you're hiking around southern Utah and the ventilation is quite good for warm weather. In cool weather, I wear it over a fleeze jacket. I advise getting one that's a size bigger than your usual for over jacket use.
