    Strength:

Outstanding lens External Flash capability Easy-to-use command dials Extremely accurate metering (matrix and spot)

    Weakness:

Build quality (more plastic than metal)

An outstanding performer, with constant sharpness at all focal lenghts. The swivel capability helps a lot in getting close to those hard to focus subjects. Matrix metering is just as perfect as in the F80, same with spot metering accuracy. Color depth/richness is just awesome, that it even outperforms quality I get from Velvia and Provia films. The TC-E2 teleconverter is a must for close-ups and macro subjects.

    Customer Service

Very accomodating and always supportive, although I never needed servicing so far.

    Strength:

Picture sharpness. Easy of use. Popup flash and lightweight.

    Weakness:

    1. Power charger for the battery can''t not be plugged directly into the AC connector in front of the camera (need seperate AC Adapter) 2. No audio for movie/video recorder

My first high resolution since my 1.2 MP Kodak 240 digital camera. Nice camera overall. I tried movie feature over the weekend. The video came out great but no audio; look at the camera, I don''t see any microphone, so I take it that I can only do silent movie! Purchased price was $699, but final out of pocket cost was $279 after price match and 2 rebates.

    Strength:

Swivel lense (great to make picture just above the ground) Great macro Great setup possibilities Great colours Long battery life Many ascesoires Good construction Nice pop-up flash

    Weakness:

Slow AF (pre-focus will help) Low light focusing (try bigger aperature, manual focus or macro setting) No TTL to external flash

Digital cameras are always a problem to review because when you finally open the box it turns out that an even better camera has been released. I bought mine in August 2001 and have made over 6000 photo''s with it for now. Something that I never would have done with my analog camera (which I use for over 20 years now). I''ve pushed the camera to it limits. Used it on 2 stops underexposure at 800 ISO to capture bad lit rock concerts and got away with it (http://communities.msn.nl/remakeremodel for examples). I have made a lot of pictures of animals, people and especially sports. With and without the external flash, and with the wide angle adapter as well as the 3x teleshot adapter. I find my pictures to be very good most of the time except for those of high speed objects while flashing over a great distance, but this is mainly caused by the flash output and not the camera. The colours look very well and if not are easily adjustable in photoshop. Even the grain at 800 iso is no problem with the right photoshop filters. Photos printed on photopaper will still look great at A4 size (sharp and at the right colour). Reports about the use of plastics on the body are exagerated. Plastic can be more impact proof then metal casings. I''ve done some pretty wild things with my camera, bumped into quite some things on the way to make the perfect shot.... so far... no external damage visible after more then 7 months. All in all, not the most modern camera these days, not the highest pixel count, but for the prosumer with a limited amount of money a great camera !

none, although I tried many other digital cameras at work like Sony Mavica and Fuji finepix 4800..... they don''t compare the the vast amount of options on this camera.

    Strength:

    4x zoom Swivel lens

    Weakness:

    - Cheaper construction than the 990 (100% plastic) - Bad hand handling (compare to the 990) - Slow AF - Noisy AF (you can feel the motorisation working and trying to focussing) - Macro mode accessible only by manual setting (it was automatic on the 990) - Macro Mode don''''t work if the flash is turn off !?! - Bad flash exposure (always under exposed) same for all nikon cameras). - Bad flash coverage in Macro Mode - Systematic medium CYAN color dominant (same for all Nikon digital product, cameras and scanners). - No hot shoe - SK-900 bracket flash unit, is always a stupid sytem and to much expensive.

We are far than is brother, CP 990, who was the achievement in digital cameras. The CP 995 is not a revolution either not a evolution because it don''''t give much than the CP 990

    Strength:

picture quality, nice choice of options. built in flash

    Weakness:

smaller f stops needed (max is about f10) rear shutter sync would be nice low light focusing noisy zoom/focus auto setting, better off using manual in preferred mode manual white balance much better then auto

wiithin a few minutes of getting this i was taking pictures...then i plugged it into my computer and prayed...Windows XP saw it as a storage device...and i could drag and drop images or mport them...simply amazing. THen i read the manual and set the camera up just as i wanted. some of the features are great such as setting func 2 to white balance selection.

    Strength:

Good image quality, reasonable battery life for a day''s work, handy and easy to use. Good range of exposure and focal length (zoom range)for what''s essentially a rangefinder camera. I don''t feel the 5000 is a warranted step up for me (at half again more money) since this camera''s lens is faster and has a greater zoom range.

    Weakness:

Construction somewhat flimsy, software is primitive and prone to crashing, monitor screen can scratch and should have some kind of cover (I use clear tape). Nikon should also provide an ac adapter at this price.

I''ve used this primarily for news photography but have also experimented a lot with wildlife, esp. birds. It''s easy to use, compact and makes clear and bright images.

    Customer Service

Never has been very good, and like their "school" can be an expensive waste of time. But their products are still worth using as long as your expectations for suport are realistic.
