I like the design. Since it's a small camera, it's easy for employees that does nettoyage de cheminée to take pictures before out work and after our work.

We often have disk drive error.

I bought mine at a garage sale for $5. Came with case, floppies, 3 batteries and a charger. I loved the 10X zoom and get really great pics. I would not have guessed .4 MP. It takes better picture than other cameras with higher resolution. I use it all the time for photos at a dance club. I upload them to the web site, so they never are enlarged too much to make them look grainy. I do adjust the pictures with a digital darkroom program and that makes the pictures a little sharper. Because they are less than 1 MP, they upload fast. I've tried 14 MP cameras for the website and it takes forever to build an album of the event. I did not really relate to the disk drive error messages. I got them a couple of times, but it was always the disk that was damaged. I would put in another one and format it and all would be well. I use it all the time and often leave it in the car so i always have it. People seem to have gone mega pixel crazy. I've seen cell phones with tiny lenses the size of the head of a pin claiming to be full HD at 10+ MP. Then people wonder why their pics are all dark, grainy and blurry. No light gets in and all the zoom is digital! This was originally $500 new and it shows in the construction. It looks military tough and was used by journalists to send pictures back right away. The size was ideal for newspaper and web site size pics and are easy to send as an attachment to an e mail.

Other cameras I've used called for pricey memory cards, which have come way down in price. Still other cameras eat AA batteries and refuse to start up if the batteries are slightly used. Few newer cameras have as much optical zoom.

A lithium-ion battery with a smart meter to tell how much time was left. This was at a time when "pro" cameras like a Nikon D1 used NIMH batteries.

A genuine 10X optical zoom, this surprised me as the camera looks like a fixed zoom or at most 3X.

A 0.3 megapixel, 640X480 resolution imager, with quality that is simply unacceptable. Taken in context; that this was sold at a time when digital cameras were a novelty and any picture was better than none, then you can kind of see how people liked it. Still, mating a 10X zoom with such a small imager is just strange.

The floppy drive. The Mavicas came out at the tail end of the floppy's useful life, when the discs were plentiful and every computer had a drive. However, they were a dead end because of limited storage capacity, slow write times. and write errors.

Plastic, toy like feel. While the camera isn't very deep it's big, larger than most modern DSLR's.

It's ugly. Yes, the appearance shouldn't matter but the styling reminds me of how cars in the early 80's suddenly had LCD displays before going back ever since to analog instruments. It doesn't grow on you and honestly looks like something built in a lab by people who'd never seen a camera before.

The Sony Mavica line to me have always been a bit of a head scratcher, combining several modern and archaic features in a camera that you're just not too sure how to categorize. In addition, Sony made so many models distinguished only by a number that you have to pull up a chart to see what is what.

The marketing point of the entire line was they used standard 3 1/2 inch floppies for data storage, and ultimately none of these cameras are much more than curios at this point, although to be honest some of the photos people rave about today with an iPhone don't look too much different than those taken with the upscale FD95.

Large Drive Errors Poor Resolution

This is probably the best camera I have ever used, despite having a very poor resolution (0.35 mp) as apposed to 2mp on my Coolpix 2500. The zoom also comes in very handy and is rather unusual because not many cameras of this price range have such a powerful zoom. I think it is just a great camera, despite the fact disk drive errors do occur.
