I bought an Olympus 790sw in Dec2007 after ruining 3 Sonys previously (one of them ended up in the toilet). I was extremely satisfied with the 790SW and unfortunately lost it.I got a new one exactly like it 1week later. The 2nd one survived everything: snowboarding in Japan, sand, sea and snorkeling in several mexican beaches, jacuzzis, rafting and canopying in Costa Rica...(I got the LCD replaced by customer service in Japan and it was smooth) I was honestly proud of my camera and its performance above and under water. Nice pics, decent video, perfect size and resistant. Until last week I lost it again at a party! damn. Any other camera would've never lasted that long. Now I bumped into this page looking for reviews fora replacement. Possibly Olympus 6010. ince it's not the newest model, it's cheaper, I'd never switch from Olympus, I even got my little brother an Olympus 550wp, which is not as good as mine were, but has done ok.

Strength:

It takes photos everywhere as well as videos.

Weakness:

It did not work very long in comparison to the price.

I took this camera EVERYWHERE. It was always in my purse or on my wrist. I took it to the pool, to the ocean and everywhere in between. I loved it until we were at the beach one day and it just stopped working. Right in the middle of our vacation. I tried getting a new battery and charger but neither of those things were the problem. I am now sending it in to see if it can be repaired for a reasonable price. I understand that cameras don't last forever but for the price it should have lasted longer than a year and a half.

Strength:

A compact camera that takes beautiful shots yet is water proof, shock proof, and it is available in all sorts of colors (mine is bright metallic green)....how could you go wrong? The price can't be beat for a camera of this type.

Weakness:

Battery life can be short.

As an avid mountain biker I needed a camera that could take whatever abuse I could intentionally or unintentionally throw at it. After much research the Olympus 790 SW seemed to be the only camera that fit my needs: Shock proof, water proof, and freeze proof for those brisk 60-degree FL mornings.

This camera is small enough to easily slide into a pocket or my Camelback and it is very simple/quick to operate for for those "on the fly" trail shots (even while wearing my gloves). I've dropped it quite a few times and the camera still operates flawlessly (the same cannot be said for my old Olympus). Photo quality is as good as all the others on the market in my opinion.

I have yet to take it under water, but I plan on giving that a shot next month!
