    Strength:

8 fps @ 4.2 Megapixels intuitive EOS 1N layout Sharp, high fidelity LCD pro features; mirror lockup, DOF preview, PC socket, IEEE 1394 socket, built-in diopter, retractable viewfinder blind. Highly customizeable and upgradable (software). Wide range of accesories. Bright LCD (data, not main) illumination

    Weakness:

Canon abandons Eye controlled focus. faster and better performing but not the highest res on the market. utility is not 100% compatable qith windows XP yet.

Well I ordered this bugger, and I had to wait 4 months before it even came to my door. As frustrating as it seems I think it reflects upon the expectations that professionals have accrued. After all, Nikon has been laying "the smack down" for years in the digital arena. You better believe that the 1D is going to make or break the canon professional digital rep. I waited. 4 long months... But now that I have the 1D I can''t even remember waiting. It was everything I expected and more. A veteran Eos 3 user, the controls are actually easier to use because of their placement and shape, and believe it or not, it actually feels lighter than the EOS 3 with booster, unlike the EOS 1V. The screen has a high fidelity and the menu system (although tricky at first) becomes quite intuitive in about 10 minutes. Furthermore, the plethora of custom functions, the highly controllable White balances, levels, resolution and tone curves make the camera absolutely outstanding. The download utility is very easy to use and fast. Furthermore it packs a walloping 8fps at maximum resolution (4.2megapixels) for 21 straight frames. Yes, there''s no delay time! It goes right into the CF card while the rest of the camera is working so there is no data log jam! This camera has made me a believer in Canon again, I''m glad I didn''t sell all my glass and get a lower overall performer like the D1x I highly recommend the 1D. It is a necessity for photojournalists and sports photographers. My only complaint is that I finally have masterd the ECF (eye controlled focus) and would you guess it no ECF on the 1D.

    Strength:

SPEED - breathtaking AF - on the mark every time, as quick as 1v IMAGE QUALITY - WOW, more than enough for anything we''ll ever shoot, and plent of res for prints. DURABILITY - I watched as the proud owner dropped his brand new 1d from chest height (and made the most painful expression I''ve ever seen!). It suffered a small scuff to the bottom paint. THAT''S ALL!!!! It''s tough as nails, plain and simple.

    Weakness:

This camera makes me contemplate "borrowing" permanantly! I haven''t run into anything weak about it, only my conscience.

I work for a college newspaper, and our photo editor recently purchased this camea. Thanks to his generosity, many of us have gotten a chance to test drive this AMAZING camera. I have used D30''s, and know their strengths and weaknesses. This camera makes you forget that photography has rules and limitations! It''s layout is so intuitive that having never used a D2000 or 1D before, I picked it up and could manage all basic operations in less than 5 minutes. Obviously, I''m just scratching the surface. In terms of value, I actually believe it has a very good value - compared to it''s nearest competition (D1x), .....there''s no comparison! The image quality is fantastic up to ISO 1600, where it does get noisy. HOWEVER, since we shoot for newsprint, 90% of high ISO noise is gone by the time it hits the page, but the sharpness is still there. So far, I''ve only shot portraits, candids, concerts and talking heads with it. However, you''d be surprised how useful 8 fps can be with singers! You simply can''t do the things this camera does with anything else. I just can''t wait to shoot sports with it (most of my assignments).

    Strength:

Speed and excellent image quality althougth the CCD is 4.1M pixels. Noise level is very good when firmware 1.3 is applied together with extra two tone curves download onto the camera. Response time is very good for instance shooting/action. Quick focusing with 45 points AF!!!

    Weakness:

XP driver is not availabile at that time.

The best SLR nowadays with speed, reliability. Have used the D30 for one year before go to the EOS 1D. Good in RAW data processing when compare with the EOS D30 especially with RAW + JPEG output with the new design. AF is very fast and wildlife shooting is pretty good with its 8 frame per second ability. Easy to familiar with all these setup buttons in less than a hour. This is a powerful tools for digital photography because most setting can be customized thru computer for a camera man.

Autofocus, built quality, speed, and low noise levels.

    Weakness:

    Software is buggy.

This is a great camera. Compared to my first digital camera, the Fuji S1, this one is built to last. It''s just like a high powered 35mm film camera. No shutter delay, no busy signals while the buffer empties. b

    Strength:

Good build quality Good compromise on pixels v speed wide selection of colour profile Nice quality pictures Intelligent software Boosting ISO to 100

    Weakness:

Some lack of ergonimics in places Some exposure and AF inaccuraries in program mode Heavy when mated to fast optics Some images do not fit any colour profiles

It seems expensive but considering the overall specs, it is a pretty good buy. It''s big and unfortunately quite heavy and with a 28-70f2.8 it is going to give you some new muscles. The camera works flawlessly at the start but gradually you get to see the and understand the main weaknesses. Operating the AF Locks and the CF door are fiddly and there is a genearal lack of ergonomics on the front side of the camera. However it is pulsatingly good on the back and is similar to the Kodak 760. The overall quality is very good especially at anything below ISO 800, after that quality takes a bit of a dive with some noise and banding being quite evident. It will still take some good shots at higher ISO but this is not it''s main strength. The real quality is in the frame speeds allied to quite large files and this is quite remarkable. Resolution and ultra smoothness sre not everything. I have a few gripes but as yet need to sort out some AF and metering inaccuraries mostly in programme mode. I think that maybe there are better ''studio cameras'' out there, but still believe it is not expensive for what it does, maybe the competition are cheaper and do some things better but it is all about finding a glove that fits and this one fits nicely for speed and colour work.

    Strength:

*Focus Control *8 Frame''s per sec *RAW + JPEG *5 Color Matrix Settings *White Balnce in degrees of Kalvin *Feels Like a 1V withouth film *Lesser Magnification *User Friendly Software

    Weakness:

NONE TO THIS POINT AT ALL !!!

Let me just start off my saying that this camera is amazing. It smokes the D-30, whcih I have used for the past year. This camera is the EOS 1V without film. It feels good to shoot with. Responsive shutter and focus (unlike the D-30). Its great that you can shoot RAW + JPEGS at the same time. The post production opions with the RAW image great alows you to fix and under exposed image two stops you can change the white balnce in degree''s of kalvin and also can change the 5 color matrix settings all after you shot the RAW image. This is the best out. Lesser magnification as well. If your into wide angle shots put on the Canon 15mm fish eye lense and see what that does I gaurentee you will love that. It will be my main camera for the time being. You might see all my film camera''s on ebay. Thats how much I love this camera.
