Canon EOS 100/Elan 35mm SLRs

Canon EOS 100/Elan 35mm SLRs

DESCRIPTION

This was the world's first AF SLR camera which incorporated the concept of silent operation. The newly-developed silent mechanisms reduced film advance noise and rewind noise by one-eighth to one-half the level of previous models. The built-in flash's coverage adjusts automatically (auto zoom) to suit the lens focal length. Red-eye reduction, second-curtain sync, and flash exposure compensation were other flash features. The Quick Control Dial on the camera back also enables real-time exposure compensation adjustment while you looked through the viewfinder. It was a feature-laden, mid-class multi-mode 35mm AF SLR.

Strength:

Easy to use especially for a begginner whose looking to get a decent auto-focus SLR at a decent price. I purchased this camera for a beginning B&W class and am very happy with the ease of use. It allows for all the things you need when learning the manual functionality of photography and at the same time provides a solid auto-function camera for personal use.

Weakness:

Flash is less than spectacular although most of what I've shot has been in the high contrast AZ sun. Has worked OK for indoor photos haven't really put it through the paces for shooting at night.

I have been most pleased with this camera, both in the B&W I have shot for school and the color Ive shot for personal use. It has worked so well that I have decided that the bug has bitten.

Customer Service

Ive used customer service only to order a manuel. It cost $7 but its nice to have, especially when there you don't have someone handy with firsthand knowledge of a particular camera.

Strength:

Quiet, fast, different program modes like portrait and DEP. Some of the best lenses out there.

Weakness:

flash is a bit weak for mmuch more than fill. Autofocus seems to get tricked at the most inopertune times causing lost shots but usually only with sports

Been using Canonn's for almost 20 years, I traded my A-1 in for the Elan because of the lense change but won't be letting go of it with the next upgrade (thinking of the EOS-3). This camera can do alot very well, looking forward to teaching my girlfriend all about photography with it. A highly recomended used buy if you find one.

Strength:

Silence, silence, and ... silence.
Easy to balance available/flash light.

Weakness:

AF is slow and hesitates sometimes.
Spot metering is not so "spotty(?)".

Ideal for theatre and concerts at affordable price. And for all stuff non-requiring fast AF.

Strength:

Light weigth. What I like most is the shutter is very quiet. Come with enough function for advance beginner.

Weakness:

Plastic body is easy to be scratch. A little dull viewfinder. Function ring may easy to free turn.

Nice to be a second camera because it has almost the same function and feature as Canon Elan II. In used market, it can be founded at low price. Good for travel ligth with a 50mm.

Strength:

The camera is really quiet and lightweight. It's good for taking candid photos of people.

Weakness:

No vertical grip available. I take a lot of portraits and I really need a vertical grip.

A good second/back-up body for your outfit.

Customer Service

I haven't had the pleasure of dealing with them yet.

Strength:

I upgraded from and AE1 with tamron lenses. My main work is wildlife and nature work. I have found the flash sync of 1/125 good for of the camera flash. As it is very quiet, it is great for wild life work. Would like a second body as back up.

Weakness:

Have had to have a service to fix a transport & dx code problem. Created by water spray from water falls. However Canon NZ has said the fault is repairable. At a price.

Very good overall for those who want a good camera without the high price tag like nikon cameras. Drawback may not suit sport photography as fps is only 3.5. Unlike Minolta 7xi body.Wireless remote instead of cable one.

Customer Service

Good but as the problem happened over xmas it took till around the 15th of Janaury 2000 to get estimate. abit long to be without a camera

Strength:

Very quiet camera. When used with USM lenses it is virtually silent. The depth of field program (DEP) is great. Turn it on and you can set the depth of field between two points very precisely!

Weakness:

Never had any. I have had the camera for 6 years with no problems of any kind.

An excellent camera to buy used if you can get a reasonable price. I have seen it for around $295 used, which I think is a bit high. It's light, quiet and reliable. DEP feature has resulted in several great photos.

Light but Sturdy Camera with good level of extras from base models. Bought to replace 500N which was my first EOS.

Weakness:

None.

This camera was initially bought as step up from my EOS 500N but now acts as backup to my EOS 5. It is reliable and realtively light. Never had any "bad" photos with this camera. A solid backup to a more professional body.
