Strength:

* Weight and Size are just right for larger hands.

*Ease of use and I am able to grow into the camera.

*Many strong features that are easy to access.

*Fast AF

*Quiet and smooth operation.

*Eye-Controlled Focus

Weakness:

*None

This camera is light enough for handheld shot, yet rugged enough to really stand up to some abuse. I have had this camera in many climates and weather conditions and it has been a real trooper. Recently bought the battery pack which is a heaven sent. The vertical shutter button on the BP-300 makes it truley worth the bucks. I have had much success with the eye control focus. It is very help full in the DOF setting.

Strength:

There are lot of strenghts in this camera, too many too mention at this time. Compared too, how much camera you would get for your money 5-10 years ago, this is a good value camera. In particular I'm glad for the autofocus; very fast and accurate. It has many of the functions, that top models have.
The light-metering system is good.
Shutter speeds with flash up to 1/4000 combined with some of Canon's flashes.
4 frames pr. second.

Weakness:

It doesn't show the light metering mode in the viewfinder. The informations in the LCD-display and in the viewfinder goes to "Off function" after only 4 seconds.
It isn't so well built, meaning that it is not so resisting to water, dust and etc. as a pro camera is.

Supply the camera with the Canon 550Ex flash, the 28-70 mm 2.8L lens and the BP-300 battery pack, and you'll get very good results, for almost half the price of combinating the EOS1 with the above mentioned products.
In my opinion everybody interessed in photo can use the camera; from a novice to a professional. It's well suited for people with a little training in photo - it's a good camera to grow with, with many of the pro functions, to an affordable price.

yet to notice one for the kind of photography I do.

Beginners - hear from a beginner!
I really liked the Film Leader out feature. This helps me in changing films and reusing them.
Secondly, the weight and its size are very comfortable.Battery Pack gives an added comfort, along with the vertical grip.
The Eye controlled focus is fun.
These are my initial impressions.
Overall it is a good camera. But it is little costly.

The previous posting is what I consider a great example of how a review should be. I don't feel like restating facts that Mr. Johnson had already covered in his review, which I believe is very true and accurate. It's funny how he put down almost exactly what I intended to mention about this camera, pro or cons. One more thing though, The camera is a little small to hold in hand. I literally can't hold it comfortably without the battery pack. I would suggest all potential buyers to get the battery pack, which also provides a vertical shutter release. Performance wise, this camera is dead silent and does the job right. You can't ask for much more than that.
Five stars for the value. 4.5 starts for the overall performance.

Strength:

Too numerous to fully mention, but here are some highlights for me that are unusual in this class of camera.

- Mirror Lockup
- DOF preview
- Exposure meter in viewfinder
- Extremely quiet shutter, AF and rewind
- Very lightweight
- Built in diopter viewfinder correction (my glasses often fog up when I stop to take a photo while X/C skiing)
- Incredibly easy to use exposure compensation and manual exposure with the two-wheel system
- E-TTL flash system
- and so on, and so on ...

Weakness:

Despite all its strengths, I do have a small wishlist:

- true spot-meter rather than the 10% partial metering
- Interchangeable viewfinder screens (sometimes get crooked photos when the tripod is set real low)
- The flash AF assist in low light, although I have a Speedlight 420EX which eliminates this problem if I have the flash with me
- a little better viewfinder relief for eyeglass wearers

I must say that these are nitpicking complaints for such a great value camera.

Can't get over what a great value this camera is. It has totally revitalized my interest in photography. There is little that cannot be accomplished with this body, and considering its price and light weight, that is indeed saying a lot. Look hard at this camera if you are considering another manufacturer's body (unless you have an investment in their lenses already) and ask yourself if you need the considerably larger investment in an EOS 3 or 1V for only a few rarely used professional features. Also, if you're interested in moving up to SLR photography, but are somewhat intimidated this is a great camera for you too. It has far more features that you will grow into than an entry level SLR like the Rebel line and you'll be glad you invested a few more dollars if you ever try to take creative control of your photographs.
