Weakness:
Flash Assisted Focusing. I bought the camera new. However, I noticed that the film latch did not shut properly. There was a minor sound coming from the latch whenever you pressed around the control dial. I called Canon and they told me to send it back to the Seller. J&R Replaced it no questions asked. My new camera arrived 1 week later. This camera feels a lot better. The film latch feels a lot sturdier. On to the camera review, first of all, I LOVE the Eye control feature. It has performed superbly. After calibrating it once, it did not focus correctly, however, after following the advice of many previous writers, I calibrated it about ten times in different light environments, indoors, outdoors etc. This took me all but 5 minutes. After doing this, the Eye control feature performs flawlessly. On the bad side, there is no spot meter and the flash assisted focusing is really annoying. Other than this, the camera is great. One last thing.... AVOID the 28-90 lens sold with this camera as a combo. It produces low quality pictures. Bad lens for a Great Camera. |

Too many to list, 4fps, different rewind modes, wireless remote, E-Z film loading. Tons more.
Weakness:
Almost none-I was using a Sigma 28-105 and the camera didn't like it. New cuicutry makes in incompatible with with certain off brand lenses. I bought this because my rebal xsn wasn't up to par. I love this camera. The eyecontrol feature is amazing. I tested it a few times and everytime it could tell the difference when I look a different part of the viewfinder. With my xsn being the fastest camera that I had ever seen, it has no comparison with the elan 7e. Blazing fast. Another feature is that instead of loading the film when you put in a rolland starting at 36-35-34, when you take a shot, The 7e starts with 1-2-3. I'm not sure why. With a two speed rewind, you could brings this anywere. perfect for weddings, promotions, museums. It also has a port so you can use a wireless remote. Customer Service Great. It was for that Sigma lens Similar Products Used: rebal xsn |

ECF, fast AF, DOF, custom settings, numerous accessories, metal lens mount, onboard fill flash, well designed,
Weakness:
NONE If you need a good reliable backup for the EOS 1V or 3, this would fit the bill. I had to add the BP-300 grip to allow for it to fit comfortably in my hands. Canon has packed some great features into this 7e. (ECF, 4fps, 2 speed film rewind, numerous presets and custom functions, etc)... excellent advanced consumer grade camera... Strength:
- quick and reliable eye-focus - light, quiet and sexy - depth of field button - quick film advance - diopter adjustment - excelent value for the price paid
Weakness:
- autofocus inaccurate on low light conditions - no spotmeter It feels wonderful to photograph with this camera, I just love it! Though light and compact, the EOS 30 is a solid and attractive camera, with very good ergonomics that make this camera very comfortable to hold. It has a tone of features (i recommend you to check the Canon website if you want to know about them). The eye-focus, is nothing that I can live without, though it's pretty "handy" and it's always On when i'm using auto-focus. Customer Service fortunantely, i didn't need it yet Similar Products Used: EOS 300 and 3000 (when referring only to Canon) |

Pretty light and quiet. Let's me do all the exposure adjustments quickly and accurately. Eye control is just great, saves SOOO much time and aggravation. Its probably best to say that its perfect but for the weaknesses I'll write next....
Weakness:
1) The auto focus assist is scary! I feel like a real goose using it.. I figure it's designed to make you buy a 420EX??? Yes I'm buying one soon. 2) Plastic film door feels a bit weak though I haven't had any problems with it. 3) Can't use infrared film (apparently) because the film advance, while super fast and ultra quiet, uses an infrared sensor to see where its going. Apparently this fogs the film though I haven't actually put any IR film through it. And that's about it. All in all its a pretty good camera. There isn't too much to complain about. Once I used a few lower and higher grade bodies I found that the 30 was a good trade off between weight and features for me. Sure it doesn't have ALL the features that the EOS 3, etc has but you get what you pay for. Customer Service Never used. Similar Products Used: EOS 50, 5, 300, 3000n, AE-1 Program, etc |

Strength:
All that have already been said about this body.
Weakness:
All features in EOS-5 that are not on this body. Spot meter / illuminating LCD pannel / control dial on the BP300 / PC terminal. A great 1st camera. Cannot say it's truly a semi-pro body. The wireless flash capability (with 520EX or ST-E2 master and multiple 420EX slaves) allow you set up complex lighting on location. If you are on a limited budget, start with the 420EX because the pattern of the focus-assist-beam from 420EX best match the 7-zone focusing. The BP300 is highly recomended for the much better grip + vertical shooting + switch to the cheaper & more available AA batteries. However, I strongly question Canon's decision to market this body as a replacement of the EOS-5 (next to EOS-3). Yes, the package comes with all the goodies but face the lack of spot-meter / illuminating LCD pannel / and dial on the vertical grop like the EOS-5 really nagged me. I wish Canon update this features into the body/grip and release them as EOS-30p/ELAN7p or something. I'm sure we all would be happy to pay $50-$70 more for the additional/optional features (compare to paying much more to switch to the EOS-3 which has many of the feature I don't need). Strength:
The selection of custom function, the ease of accessing the various well placed wheels and buttons without haveing to stop shooting to look at the camera. The fast AF. The wide selection of lenses from inexpensive to excelent profesional lenses. It offers the choice of keeping expenses fairly low to being able to put together an incredicle high end system.
Weakness:
It does not do the dishes. For the price this camera is an excelent choice. I have enjoyed this camera body. After using My Canon Rebel for several years I decided it was time to step up a notch. While I rarely use the full program mode, the features incorporated in this camera from the mirror lockup which prevents camera shake to being able to leave a leader of film sticking out of the roll (I process my own film) is very handy. I especially enjoy the multiple focus points and the eye control. I enjoy being able to have the camera focus on the subject of choice and set the exposure without having to recompose most of the time. This camera, just like the rebel is great becasue it is part of system that alows the owner to upgrade camera bodies or lenses without having to purchase a compelte set up. Especially great since Canon has a great line up of both bodies and lenses that use cutting edge technology. I would recomend this for any one interested in an SLR up to the very serious amature Customer Service Have not had a problem with any of my cameras. My mother is the only one I know that had a Canon break. Her camera was a point and shoot that she purchased in the early 80's and it lasted until 2001 w Similar Products Used: Canon Rebel, Minolta and Pentax manual focus cameras |

Strength:
Good all round camera, with many useful features such as MLU ( with timer), uses very convenient RC-1 controller, access to custom functions on the top deck. Inbuilt flash.
Weakness:
Difficult to achieve accurate manual focus. Focussing screen designed for brightness not manual focus accuracy. Autofocus not consistently accurate in low light. Viewfinder not 100%. AF assist beam alarming and absurd, switch this off. Eye controlled focus works as claimed as long as you calibrate frequently, but is not particularly useful as the part of the subject required to be in focus is not often covered by one of the focus points. The EOS 30 is a very well specified camera representing excellent value for money. It is light and compact with good ergonomics ( but not quite as good as the EOS1V ). It is blissfully quiet. In fact it is the quietest SLR I have ever used , and is only slightly more noisy than a Leica M6. Customer Service Good from Canon Australia Similar Products Used: EOS 10, 1V |

Eye control, it really works. 4 fps. Mirror lock, Nikon f80 and others don't offer it, and it's a must to me. Quite a tough machine, with parts in metal. Finally, it's a Canon Eos.
Weakness:
No punctual meter, only partial (10%). I'd really like Canon made a programmable back for this camera. A very good camera, for sure the best body in the market for the price. Very complete, includes features that other bodies of similar prices don't have. If you buy the pack, the ef28-90usm is not the best Canon lens, but it still works pretty good. Customer Service After more than a year of intensive use I haven't needed yet. Similar Products Used: Not a similar one, but I used a Canon7 for some time before I got this one. |
